OCR: VALENTINA TERESHKOVA VALENTINA VLADIMIROVNA TERESHKOVA is a former Russian cosmonaut who became the first woman in space on June 16, 1963. Her flight aboard Vostok 6 lasted less than 3 days. Once in orbit, she tested her spacecraft's control systems and took photographs of the Earth, the Moon, and stars. She was able to talk by radio to Valeri Bykovsky (1934- ), the pilot of Vostok 5 who had been orbiting the Earth for two days before she arrived.
