AD 90-168 ) CLAUDIUS PTOLEMAEUS, usually known simply as Ptolemy, was a Greek astronomer and mathematician who influenced astronomical thought for centuries after his death. The term "Ptolemaic universe" describes his Earth- centered view of the Universe, a view that was widely held until the 17th century.
