In March 1965 he was launched into space aboard Voskhod 2 along with fellow CCCP Russian cosmonaut Pavel Belyayev (1925-1970). During the flight Leonov spent over 20 minutes outside the capsule - longer than originally planned because excess pressure in his spacesuit meant that he had great difficulty reentering the hatch of Voskhod 2. Leonov made a second flight 10 years later, making history when his Soyuz craft docked with an American Apollo craft, joining the two nations in space. (1934-) A-Z SEE LIFE NEXT ALSO STORY
