He is educated at Huish's Grammar School, Taunton, Somerset. 1935 Clarke's first appearance in print is a letter he sends to the magazine Amazing Stories concerning the velocity of light. 1936 At age 19 Clarke moves to London, where he works as a civil servant and becomes involved in the newly formed British Interplanetary Society. 1941 Joins the Royal Air Force, where he works as a trainee in radar and then a radar instructor before working with early-warning systems. 1945 An article by Clarke entitled Extra-terrestrial Relays is published in the October issue of the British magazine Wireless World.
