OCR: FACT FILE .............................................. POLARIS HAS NOT always been situated so close to the North celestial pole, nor will it always be. Because the Earth wobbles a little on its axis, the North pole does not always point to the same spot on the celestial sphere. Instead, over the course of 25,800 years, the northern part of the Earth's axis traces out a small circle on the northern celestial sphere. Stars that are nearest to this circle take turns to mark the North celestial pole.
