OCR: THE SUN THE SUN IS A 5-billion-year-old Photosphere main-sequence star. It is a sphere Convection zone of mainly hydrogen and helium gases, about 1.4 million km (870,000 miles) Radiation zone wide. It contains 750 times the mass of Core all its planets put together and has seven times the mass of the average star. In its core, nuclear reactions convert mass into electromagnetic radiation, a form of energy. This energy radiates outward, making the Sun shine. It also warms the other objects of the Solar System, which are held in orbit by the Sun's gravity.
