OCR: BACKWARD SPIN WHEN VIEWED from above the North pole, most planets and moons in the Solar System rotate on their axes and orbit the Sun in a counterclockwise direction. Venus, however, rotates in a clockwise, or retrograde, direction in comparison with the other planets. Why it does this is not known for certain, but some astronomers have suggested that Venus may have spun in the same direction as the other planets before it was knocked upside down by a collision with another planet or an asteroid.
