OCR: A TWO-YEAR DAY BECAUSE MERCURY is the closest planet to the Sun, it must race Mercury's around the Sun faster than any other orbital path planet in order to maintain a stable orbit. Mercury, therefore, has the shortest year of any planet, taking just 88 Earth days to orbit the Sun Mercury once, at an average speed of about 48 km (30 miles) per second. The Sun During each year, Mercury spins very slowly one and one half times on its axis. This produces a long sidereal day lasting almost 59 Earth days. Mercury's solar day, which is measured from sunrise to sunrise, SOLAR DAY lasts for 176 days. Mercury has the longest solar day of all the planets in the Solar System.
