OCR: ROCKET POWER SPACE TECHNOLOGY Many rockets, including the US Space Shuttle's main rocket engines, use liquid hydrogen as the fuel and liquid oxygen as the oxidizer. Liquid- propellant rockets are more frequently used than those that use solid propellants because their flow of propellant, and therefore the thrust of the engines, can be controlled when necessary.
