OCR: THE APOLLO-SOYUZ PROGRAM IN JULY 1975, the USSR and the USA cooperated in space for the first time. After Soyuz 19 being launched by the Saturn 1B rocket, an orbiting Solar US Apollo spacecraft carrying three astronauts panel docked with a Soviet Soyuz capsule that had two cosmonauts on board. A unique docking module was used, which also had to function as an airlock as the US craft contained oxygen, but the Soviet craft had a mixture of oxygen and nitrogen at a higher pressure.
