  9. *  To fix most problems associated with the video drivers, delete
  10.     a small file from the root directory of C: drive titled "UNIVBE.DRV"
  11.     
  12.     This can be done by typing the following:
  13.     
  14.             c:    <enter>
  15.             cd \    <enter>
  16.             attrib -r univbe.drv
  17.             del univbe.drv
  18.     
  19.     Now, you can try running The Disc defaulting to your videocards'
  20.     VESA modes or a VESA driver specific to your videocard by typing the
  21.     following from the root directory of The Disc.

  32. Q.  My computer hangs with a black screen when I type THEDISC <enter>?
  33.  
  34. A.  We use a third party program to handle the large number of non
  35.     VESA supporting video cards on the market.  This program titled
  36.     UniVBE from SciTech Software fails to run on some machines and
  37.     therefore sometimes hangs.
  38.     To avoid calling this program start The Disc by typing the
  39.     following:
  40.             THEDISC -VESAOFF    <enter>
  41.  
  42.     If The Disc still fails to run, you will need to obtain and run
  43.     a VESA driver suited to your videocard, then retry the above
  44.     program.
  45.

  47.     
  48.     Delete the UNIVBE.DRV file as mentioned above & type the following
  49.     from the root directory of The Disc.
  50.     
  51.             uvconfig -pc:\            <enter>
  52.             attrib +r c:\univbe.drv        <enter>
  53.             thedisc                <enter>

  57. Q.  When I run The Disc. The screen is completely garbled when I
  58.     watch the video sequences and view the menus?
  59.  
  60. A.  Yet another bug caused by the UniVBE software.  This seems to
  61.     be problem that may exist in some Cirrus Logic brand videocards,
  62.     particulary model CL-GD5426.  We have added a new directory
  63.     to this issue, within which we have placed a fix for this problem.
  64.  
  65.     Change to the directory titled  FIXVESA.
  66.     And from there, run the batch file titled   FIXVESA
  67.  
  68.     This will then run The Disc for you.

  75. Q.  Where can I find a VESA driver specific to my videocard?
  76.  
  77. A.  You can try the shareware version of UniVBE that is on this CD,
  78.     in the UNIVBE directory.

  82. Q.  My computer hangs when detecting the soundcard or when I first
  83.     run THEDISC and it says "THEVOICE" ?
  84.  
  85. A.  Run the program called:    THEVOICE  
  86.     from the root directory of The Disc. It is a soundcard setup program.

  90. Q.  When starting The Disc, a message appears saying:
  91.     "FAILED to load VESA driver!"
  92.     
  93. A.  Check that you have at least 12 Kilobytes (12288 bytes) free on
  94.     your C-Drive.
  95.     or/
  96.     Your video card may not have 640x480x256 capabilities.

  98.     * To check the kind of video card you have, try the UVCONFIG.EXE
  99.       program in the root directory of the CD.

  103. Q.  The screen is broken up and the background images flicker?
  104.  
  105. A.  Your video card may have less than 1 Megabyte of memory on it.
  106.  
  107.     * To check the kind of video card you have, try the UVCONFIG.EXE
  108.       program in the root directory of the CD.

  112. Q.  The movie sequences seem to run slowly or erratically?
  113.  
  114. A.  Your processor may be a low-speed 386.
  115.     or/
  116.     Try removing any unnecessary TSRs from memory.
  117.     or/
  118.     Check that the TURBO button is in the correct position.
  119.     or/
  120.     You are running The Disc in a DOS shell from Windows.

  124. Q.  In The Disc, I cannot move the cursor with my mouse?
  125.  
  126. A.  Check your mouse is plugged in.

  128.     Check that you have a mouse driver installed.

  130.     * The keyboard can emulate the mouse by using the cursor keys,
  131.       and SPACEBAR or <ENTER> for the mouse-button.

  135. Q.  The sound volume is quiet?
  136.  
  137. A.  Check the volume of your soundcard.
  138.     This could either be a dial at the back of the computer or a
  139.     program supplied with your soundcard.

  143. Q.  The Disc hangs when I run it from Windows, OS/2 or Windows 95?
  144.  
  145. A.  The Disc has been designed to run in normal DOS mode at this
  146.     stage and we are working towards getting it working under
  147.     Windows 95 for the future.

  151. Q.  I get an "Insufficient Memory" error, what do I do?
  152.  
  153. A.  It is likely that you have the Windows smart drive installed
  154.     and/or EMS set up with your EMM386 driver.
  155.     Remove the \windows\smartdrv line from your autoexec.bat file
  156.     and change the numeric value for your EMM386 driver to NOEMS.
