MININEC Antenna Analysis
The following files are included in this program set:
MN.EXE Antenna analysis program
MNDEMO.EXE Demonstration plotting program
MNDRIVER.COM Resident plot driver for the Hercules Graphics Card
MN.DOC Documentation for MN
EARTH.DOC Information on real earth characteristics
*.ANT Sample antenna files
*.PLT Sample plot files, used by MNDEMO
READ.ME This file
Demonstration Plot
In order to view the demonstration plot you must have a Hercules
Graphics Card or equivalent (compatible cards are often called Monochrome
Graphics Cards). Before plotting the resident graphics driver must be loaded
by executing MNDRIVER. This needs to be done only once per boot. You may then
select the P command while in MN, or you can execute MNDEMO separately. The
demonstration plot program always references the two Beverage antenna plot
files.
The following keys are active during the plot:
<Enter> Switches between azimuth and elevation plots
<Spacebar> Selects a second plot file for on-screen comparison; then
used to switch between the two antennas
<G> Rescale the plot of the lower gain antenna to the peak gain
of the higher gain antenna; pressing again reverts to normal
<Esc> Exit the demonstration program
Plotting Program
A fully functional Plotting Program for the Hercules Graphics Card is
available from the author. The Plotting Program works either in conjunction
with the MN plot command for viewing the patterns of the antenna currently
under analysis, or as a standalone program for viewing plot files generated
previously. The Plotting Program interacts with MN to generate plot files.
Azimuth and elevation plots are displayed in polar form using the familiar ARRL
log dB plotting grid, allowing your plots to be easily compared with those in
amateur publications.
While viewing a plot, a second plot file may be selected for pattern
comparison. The new plot is drawn into the second graphics buffer, allowing
the screens to be switched back and forth instantly with a single key stroke.
This permits a precise pattern comparison, revealing effects of small changes
in an antenna design that otherwise go unnoticed.
Antenna Library
A library of 50 antenna files is available from the author. Included
in the library are antenna files for the following types of antennas:
Rhombic Ground Plane Bobtail Curtain
Longwire Sloper Bowtie Dipole
Lazy H Stacked Yagi CCD Antenna
Beverage Extended Double Zepp High Performance Yagi
Vee Beam X Beam Phased Vertical Array
Trap Dipole Endfire Array Optimized Quad
W8JK Flat Top Turnstile Delta Loop
Dipole Inverted Vee Halfwave Loop Quad
Quagi Folded Dipole Squalo
Bisquare Mobile Whip Collinear Array
All of the antenna files are annotated. Many of the antennas have been
optimized for best performance. Others demonstrate various features of MN, or
illustrate interesting properties or unusual applications of particular
antennas. Some antennas yielding anomalous results are also included to
demonstrate certain limitations of the analysis program.
Distribution Policy
The MN antenna analysis programs are made available to radio amateurs
under the "Gilletteware" software distribution concept. That is, nothing is
charged for the razor, but the razor blades aren't quite free. In addition,
you are encouraged to become a dealer in razor blades, although you may give
them away to friends if you choose. Commercial or institutional users, or
publishers, should contact the author directly for licensing information.
Users are encouraged to freely copy this basic MN program set, or to
place it on public bulletin board systems, as long as no charge is made, and
all of the files in this distribution are included.
The Plotting Program is available for purchase from the author for $25.
Purchasers of the Plotting Program should feel free to make a few copies of it
for friends, but it is not to be distributed via bulletin boards, timeshare
services, radio clubs, or other means of mass distribution. However,
purchasers are authorized to sell copies, as long as they remit to the author
one half of the sales price of each copy sold. Users who obtain the Plotting
Program from someone other than the author may also distribute the program,
subject to the same conditions as the original purchaser.
The Antenna Library is available from the author for $25. It is sold
under the same conditions as the Plotting Program.
If the Plotting Program and Antenna Library are ordered together the
total price is $40. In addition, plot files for all of the antennas in the
Antenna Library will be included, saving you the time required to generate them
yourself.
A copy of this basic MN program set is available free from many ham
radio bulletin boards, or from the author in person in exchange for a floppy
disk. It is also available by mail from the author for a $5 postage, media,
and handling charge.
All programs will be provided on a 360K DSDD 5¼" diskette via first
class mail. The latest version of the basic MN program set will be included
with any order.
