  14.        This is a file typed up for beginners on PBXing.
  15. If you know anything about PBX's at all this file will do
  16. you no good at all. It is very basic. Hope this helps some
  17. of you beginners. Now, on with the Gfile.

  21. PART II: What are PBX's?
  22.  
  23.        PBX's are telephone systems set up by very large
  24. corporations to make long distance (LD) phone calls for free.
  25. I have heard many definitions for PBX's:
  26. -Public Brand Xchanges
  27. -Personal Business Xchanges
  28. -and a few other
  29. Actually it stands for Private Branch Xchange [Useful to know
  30. this when you are asked to define abbreviations on those
  31. info-forms.

  35. PART III: How do PBX's Work?
  36.  
  37.        You should be familiar with 1-800 dialups already
  38. [1-800-xxx-xxxx]. If not get a gfile called "Phreaking - For
  39. the Beginners." These 1-800 allow dialups form mainly
  40. anywhere in the United States. But, not in some Foreign
  41. countries. It depends on what WATS line Company you are
  42. using. WATS [Wide Area Telephone Service] Lines are offered
  43. by AT&T at a rate of around $2000 dollars a month, which
  44. allows and unlimited amount of phone calls to that companies
  45. 1-800 number. The PBX works almost the same as a MCI, SPRINT,
  46. and other LD services work. It uses an INWATS [Inward Wats]
  47. line t the employees [or phreakers in your case]
  48. phone charge. Next, you dial the PBX, the computer on the
  49. other end will pick up the phone automatically and send you a
  50. tone [Similar to a dial tone]. This is when you enter you
  51. code. Next, enter the long distance number you wish to call
  52. [known as the Target Number]. If the code you entered is a
  53. valid one, the computer will call the number automatically
  54. and connect you too the BBS you wish to call. If you have a
  55. friend that moved or just some one you want to chat with that
  56. lives out of your area code. You can also do this without the
  57. use of you computer, just do it manually on your receiver.

  61. PART IV: PBX's of The Past
  62.  
  63.        A few years ago, PBX's were constructed without codes
  64. All you would have to do was call up the PBX [1-800-xxx-xxxx]
  65. and enter the number you wished to call. But then, Companies
  66. soon found out that their phones were being used by other
  67. people than their employees. So, they decided to add a little
  68. code to keep these people [Phreakershose were the
  69. good 'ole days. But it hasn't stopped anybody yet. And they
  70. never will.

  74. PART V: Dialing a PBX.
  75.  
  76.        To dial the PBX, get a blank screen on your
  77. Communication package and type:

  79. ATDT1800xxxxxxx,,,,,CODE,,Target.
  80.  
  81. Each comma tells the computer to pause for two seconds. You
  82. will have to fool around with a few times to find out the
  83. pauses. Also, you will have to experiment a little to find
  84. the length of the code.
