  13.                              HOW TO CONNECT TO AUTONET
  14.

  16.           To establish a connection to Autonet,  simply  follow  the  steps
  17.           listed below.
  18.  
  19.            1. Dial your local access number and  wait  for  a  high-pitched
  20.               tone.
  21.               NOTE: If you are using a direct-connect terminal, proceed  to
  22.               Step 3.
  23.  
  24.            2. Switch data set to DATA, or place the telephone receiver fir-
  25.               mly in the acoustic coupler, orienting the cord as indicated.
  26.  
  27.            3. Press the RETURN key two times.
  28.  
  29.            4. Autonet will respond with:

  34.            5. Type one or more of the connection dialog commands  described
  35.               on  the  following pages. The appropriate C or ID command and
  36.               corresponding name or number will be provided to you when you
  37.               become  an  Autonet user. The H and T commands may be used in
  38.               conjunction with either of these.

  98.                                     The C Command

  101.           PURPOSE         The  C  command  requests  a connection to a sub-
  102.                           scribing host computer. The particular  host  can
  103.                           be  specified by a numerical address, or, through
  104.                           special arrangements, by an alphabetic name.  The
  105.                           terminal  session  is  charged to the subscribing
  106.                           host.

  190.           PURPOSE         The H command prints a connection dialog  command
  191.                           summary  as  a  helpful reminder for users. The H
  192.                           command may be used in conjuction with other com-
  193.                           mands,  or  it  may  be  used as a single command
  194.                           PRIOR to issuing the C or  the  ID  commands.  If
  195.                           used  individually,  the  network will follow the
  196.                           summary display with a prompt  for  another  com-
  197.                           mand.

  229.           PURPOSE         The T  command  identifies  the  use\}r's  terminal

  231.                           ing parameters to optimize the terminal's charac-
  232.                           teristics.  The  T command may be used in conjuc-
  233.                           tion with other commands, or it may be used as  a
  234.                           single  command  PRIOR to issuing the C or the ID
  235.                           commands. If used individually, the network  will
  236.                           establish  the correct parameters and will prompt
  237.                           for another command.
