==========================================
Element 1.5.2 is shareware.
To find out how you can (and why you should) register, read the enclosed
file REGISTER.TXT. Before registering, please visit the following web page
for the latest information:
http://www.mindgear.com/
Installation
------------
Follow the instructions for installing applications included with your
device and/or desktop software.
Registration
------------
Once you have registered your copy of this program, you will receive your
registration code via e-mail within a few days. You need to enter this
code on the splash screen displayed when starting Element 1.5.2. Once the
correct code is entered, Element 1.5.2 will immediately operate with all
features of the registered version and no more registration reminders will
be displayed.
For information about how to acquire a registration code, please see the file
REGISTER.TXT that is distributed along with this program.
Main Display
------------
The main display consists of a graphic representation of the periodic table of
the elements. Tap on a box in the table to select an element and display its
properties.
Above the table display are four fields, including:
- Atomic Number (top-left)
- Mass Number (top-right)
- Symbol (center)
- Element Name (bottom)
Tapping on any of these fields will display a sorted popup list from which you
can select elements by that property.
Below the table is a scrollable list of 21 additional properties of the selected
element. Information explaining each of these additional properties is available
by selecting "Property Information" from the "Options" menu.
At the lower-left corner of the table are three selectors (+, -, &) which are
used in conjunction with marking (see below).
Above the lanthanides on the right side are left/right arrows which are used to
step through the elements. When stepping, the selection moves to the next
element in the same marked-state as the current selection.
Marking
-------
You can mark elements based on any of the properties in the list at the bottom
of the display. Elements are marked by comparing (equal, greater, less) a single
property to the currently selected element (greater and less also imply equal).
The result of the comparison is used to either add-to, remove-from, or limit
(logical AND) the currently marked set.
1. Tap the desired property data to be compared.
2. Select the desired marking operation (add[+], remove[-], limit[&]).
3. Choose the desired comparison from the "Mark" menu.
In addition to marking by comparison, you can change the marked-state of the
selected element, mark all elements, or clear all marks by choosing the
"Selected", "All", or "None" menu items, respectively.
If the marking results in all elements being marked, the operation will
automatically change to remove[-]. Likewise, if the marking results in no
elements being marked the operation will change to add[+].
A single mark command can be retracted with the "Undo" item on the "Edit" menu.
Selecting "Undo" a second time will undo the undo (i.e. redo the marking). Undo
also resets the selected operation.
Property Order
--------------
For purposes of comparison the property data are ordered numerically except for
the following, which are ordered as shown:
Elec Cfg:
As atomic number
Family:
alkali metal
alkali earth metal
transition metal
chalcogen
halogen
noble gas
lanthanide
actinide
Crystal:
monoclinic
rhombohedral
orthorhombic
tetragonal
hex
cubic
bcc (body-centered cubic)
fcc (face-centered cubic)
State:
solid
liquid
gas
synthetic
OxStates:
Numeric by first listed state
Oxide:
amphoteric
strong base
mild base
weak base
neutral
weak acid
mild acid
strong acid
Any unknown datum (indicated with "-?-") is un-ordered and only compares as
equal with other unknown data.
Accuracy of the data
--------------------
The data provided is accurate to the best of our knowledge. However, an amount
of that data has been gathered by methods which cannot ensure 100% accuracy. We
welcome all corrections, provided that they are accompanied by an appropriate
reference to their source. Please send feedback to:
element.feedback@mindgear.com
The values of certain properties of some elements were unknown to us and have
been substituted with "-?-" as a placeholder. We would especially like to
receive feedback with values for such items.
