  10. Thank you for trying CasinoStud.  CasinoStud is a collection of four
  11. stud poker games for the Palm Computing Platform.  It consists of
  12. CaribStud (Caribean Stud Poker), DoubleDown, LetItRide, and ThreeCard
  13. (Three Card Poker).  Each of the four games contain the same rules as
  14. the similarly named games found in many casinos.
  15.  
  16. Each of these four games are available individually from Rose Software.
  17. CasinoStud packages them together into one game with a common bankroll
  18. and the ability to quickly switch games.  The price of these games
  19. individually would total $25.  However, by purchasing CasinoStud at 
  20. the competitively low price of $15, you save almost half.
  21.  
  22. The initial bankroll provided by this program is $500.  If you run out
  23. of money, you will need to register the program in order to be able to
  24. "buy" additional chips and continue playing the game.  You may register
  25. on-line via credit card or by mail with a check or money order.  Please
  26. see the "Registration" section below for more details.

  36. How to Play
  37. ------------

  39. The initial screen for the game allow you to select the initial game
  40. that you would like to play.  The four available menu buttons are:
  41.  
  42.   CaribStud - Play CaribStud, a Caribean Stud Poker game.
  43.  
  44.   DoubleDown - Play DoubleDown Stud Poker.
  45.  
  46.   LetItRide - Play LetItRide Stud Poker.
  47.  
  48.   ThreeCard - Play ThreeCard, a Three Card Stud Poker game.

  50. The rules for each of the individual games are provided below.  To
  51. switch to another game, press the Menu button on your Palm Pilot to
  52. display the menubars at the top of the screen.  The "Switch" menubar
  53. contains menu options to switch to one of the other three games.  The
  54. "Game" menubar provides menu options that pertain to the game you are
  55. currently playing.  Please refer to the "Menu Buttons" section below 
  56. for more information on the menu options.

  78. The ante amount can be changed by selecting inside the Ante area.  Valid
  79. ante amounts are $5 to $25 in increments of $5.  After selecting the ante
  80. amount, press the Deal button to wager the ante amount and deal the cards.

  82. Five cards are dealt each to the player and dealer, with only one of the
  83. dealer's cards being exposed.  If you decide to drop your hand, select the 
  84. Drop button, and only your ante amount will be lost.  If you decide to 
  85. bet your hand select the Bet button.  You will be wagering an additional 
  86. amount equal to twice the ante.  For example, if you have a $5 ante amount, 
  87. the total amount wagered will be the $5 ante plus a $10 bet.

  89. When the Bet button is pressed, the dealer's remaining cards will be 
  90. exposed.  If the dealer does not "qualify" (meaning an Ace-King or higher), 
  91. then you win an amount equal to the ante.  If the dealer does qualify, then
  92. it becomes your hand against the dealer's.  If you win the hand, then you 
  93. win the ante amount, plus an amount determined by the amount of the bet
  94. (not ante) and the poker hand.  Each poker hand will pay out a different
  95. amount.

  109. In addition to the above payouts, you may be entitled to additional payouts
  110. from the progressive jackpot.  These are paid if you bet, but regardless of
  111. whether the dealer qualifies or whether you win the hand or not.

  114. Full House        $100
  115. Four of a Kind        $500
  116. Straight Flush        10% of progressive jackpot
  117. ROYAL FLUSH        100% of progressive jackpot

  119. The progressive jackpot starts at $10,000, and is increased by $1 for each 
  120. hand played.  The amount in the progressive jackpot may be viewed by selecting
  121. the "Progressive Jackpot" menu button.  Each time one of the above amounts is
  122. won, it is subtracted from the progressive jackpot.  However, the minimum value
  123. of the progressive jackpot is always $10,000.

  149. When the deal button is pressed, you start by wagering an amount equal to
  150. ante amount.  Five cards are dealt, with four of the cards being exposed 
  151. and the remaining card being covered.

  153. After the cards are dealt, the "Stnd" and "Dbl" buttons are displayed in the
  154. Play Buttons area.  If you like your cards, you may press the Dbl button to
  155. double your bet.  If you do not like your cards, you may press the Stnd
  156. button to leave your bet as-is.

  158. After either button is pressed, the covered card is exposed.  If the
  159. player has a pair of sixes or better he is paid based on the amount of bet
  160. and the payout odds, which are based on the final hand.

  175. Since you cannot lose with a pair of sixes or better, it is in your best
  176. interest to double the bet when you have a pair of sixes or better showing, and
  177. to stand if you have a low possibility of finishing with a paying hand.

  204. three times the ante amount.  However, you will have the opportunity to
  205. pull back up to two of the ante amounts if you don't like your cards.  Five
  206. cards are dealt, with three of the cards being exposed and the remaining
  207. two cards being covered.

  209. After the cards are dealt, the "Bet" and "Pull" buttons are displayed in the
  210. Play Buttons area.  If you like your cards, you may press the Bet button to
  211. leave your bet as is.  If you do not like your cards so far, you may press
  212. the Pull button to pull back one of your ante amounts.

  214. After either button is pressed, one of the covered cards is exposed, and the
  215. process repeats.  After both of the covered cards have been exposed, if the
  216. player has a pair of tens or better he is paid based on the amount of bet
  217. remaining and the payout odds, which are based on the final hand.

  231. Since a payout is guaranteed for a pair of tens or better, it is in your best 
  232. interest to leave the bet when you have a pair of tens or better showing, and
  233. to pull your bets back if you have a low possibility of finishing with a 
  234. paying hand.

  256. The bet amount can be changed by selecting inside the BetAmt area.  Valid
  257. bet amounts are $5 to $25 in increments of $5.

  259. ThreeCard is actually two games in one.  In the first game, called
  260. PairPlus, you are only betting that you will get one pair or higher.  You
  261. are not betting against the dealer with this hand.  To play this game,
  262. press the "PairPlus" button in the Betting Buttons area of the screen.
  263. The PairPlus button toggles a chip icon that indicates whether you are
  264. playing this game or not.

  266. After selecting the PairPlus button (and/or the Ante button - see below),
  267. press the "Deal" button in the Play Buttons area to start the game.

  269. If you get a pair or better with your three cards, you will be paid according
  270. to the following payout odds:
  271.  
  272. One pair:    1:1
  273. Flush:        4:1
  274. Straight:    6:1
  275. Three of kind:    30:1
  276. Straight flush:    40:1
  277.  
  278. In the second game, referred to in this document as Ante/Play, you are
  279. betting that you will beat the dealer.  To play this game, press the "Ante"
  280. button in the Betting Buttons area of the screen.  This button toggles a
  281. chip icon that indicates whether you are playing this game or not.
  282.  
  283. After the deal, you will need to back up your Ante bet with a Play bet if
  284. you wish to stay in the game.  A Play bet is made by pressing the "Play"
  285. button in the Betting Buttons area of the screen.
  286.  
  287. The dealer only plays with a Queen high or better.  If the dealer does not
  288. have at least a Queen high, there is a push on the Play bet, and you win
  289. the Ante bet 1:1.  If the dealer does play, and your hand is higher than
  290. the dealer's hand, you are paid 1:1 on both the Ante bet and the Play bet.
  291. The hand rankings are slightly different for three card poker than they are
  292. for five card.  The hands in increasing order are:

  294. No Pair (high card)
  295. One Pair
  296. Flush
  297. Straight
  298. Three of a Kind

  302. There is also an additional payout called the AnteBonus payout that is
  303. paid on certain hands in the Ante/Play game.  This payout is made regardless
  304. of whether the dealer plays or whether the player's hand beats the dealer's 
  305. hand.  The AnteBonus payouts are as follows:

  308. Three of Kind:    4:1
  309. Straight Flush:    5:1

  311. One final note about the Ante/Play game:  Since the dealer only plays with
  312. a Queen high or better, it is generally the best strategy for the player
  313. to play only with a Queen high or better.

  315. You can play either the PairPlus game or the Ante/Play game, or both.

  364. Register option in the pulldown menu in order to activate the ability
  365. to purchase additional chips.

  404. Install CasinoStud.prc using instapp.exe.
  405. instapp.exe can be found in your pilot directory. (ex. c:\pilot\instapp.exe)

  407. Alternately, this application can be installed via the Palm Desktop application.
  408. Go to the "Install" Icon under Palm Desktop, and then click "Add...".  This 
  409. will bring up a browse window which you can use to find CasinoStud.prc.  Select
  410. CasinoStud.prc, and the next time you do a HotSync, the application will be
  411. transferred to your Palm Pilot.

  413. Installation of CasinoStud will not affect previous installations of CaribStud,
  414. DoubleDown, LetItRide, or ThreeCard.
