***THE GAME
**********************
This is not only a screensaver! Yes you read me well my friend, there is a game with your screensaver. The basics are; there are drones, which are the good guys, and there are critters which are the bad guys. To increase your level you must protect the drones and kill the critters. Remember to put your name in the config screen and you'll be in the Statistics (high scores) screen!
**********************
***CONFIG
**********************
To go in the configuration screen just select it from the Start->Programs->AA-Alien Annihilation->AA-Alien Annihilation Config.
-or-
Right click on the AA-Alien Annihilation on your desktop and select "Configure".
-or-
Right click in your background, select Properties, select the screen saver tab, in the screen saver list box, if AA-Alien Annihilation is not selected, select it, then click on "Settings..."
**********************
**Starting level**
Default: 0
This slider is used to select at which level you wish the
program to start. You cannot select a level higher then 75.
*Level Increase delay*
Default: Never
This allow the program to automaticly increase the level at
certain intervals if there is no player input. You specify
the time between the increase.
**Your name**
If you want to have your name in the statistics screen you
should put it here first.
**Guns Only**
Behold! No critters, just the guns to mess your desktop and
make it bleed!
**Use Windows wallpaper**
Default: OFF
Check this checkmark box if you wish the program to just
use your background image during its execution (instead of
your current screen).
**Critters and drones**
*Drones Behavior*
Default: Flee Mouse
There are 4 possible drone behaviors. "Seek mouse" will
cause the drone to be attracted by your cursor. "Flee
mouse" will cause the drone to flee your cursor (which can
help in saving some drone lives...) "Flee Critters will
cause the drones to avoid the ravenous creatures trying to
eat them. And "Random" which leaves them be.
*Critters Behavior*
Default: Seek drone
Again there are 3 possible settings. Flee Mouse, critters
are a tid bit more difficult to hit. Seek drone, which is
the default and more fun option, unleaching the criters on
your poor drones. And Random which let them wander as they
wish.
*Number of drones*
Default: 3
You can set the number of drones you wish to have on the
screen.
*Max Critters*
Default: 10
This is the maximum number of critters you'll have on the
screen when you reach the higher levels.
*Speed*
Default: Normal
You can set the speed at which the critters move. Remember
it may not seem like a big difference in the lower levels
but it is quite obvious in the higher ones! "Insane" IS
insane.
*Critters eat background*
Default: ON
If you don't like the critters leaving black strips on your
screen, remove that option and you'll be happy again.
*Drones clean background*
Default: OFF
We highly recomend you try to put it on. We decided to put
it off by default because some video cards have problems
with transparency colors.
*Blood Slicks*
Default: ON
For the sensitive types we provide the option to turn off
the goriest aspect of the kills, the dripping blood.
**Favorite gun**
Default:Shotgun
Select you favorite weapon; this is the gun you'll start
with.
**Sound volume**
Default:100%
To set the volume of the sounds or not to set the volume of
the sounds! That is the question you might ask yourself
since we gave you the option to do it!
**Screen Cleanup**
Default:Never
Do you wish the screen to auto clean up the critters' (and
your) mess from time to time? If yes select the option best
suited to your liking.
**Performance**
If you experience speed problems or just like to play with more
options these two should satisfy you.
*Force resolution*
Default: OFF
Select a resolution from the drop down box and click on the
checkmark box to have the program force a screen resolution
each time it starts. Please note that the program will
automaticaly use the Windows wallpaper if this option is
selected.
*Creature animations*
Default: OFF
The animations are real nice, but upon testing on the
legendary "average computer" we decided to put this option
on OFF by default.

***Designer's note

Congratulation for reading this far!
As you may have noticed, I just love being able to configure every part of a software program. So the configuration screen is quite extensive, I think one important part of the game is to be able to play with the configs. It's like getting 10 games for the price of one (or 10 screen savers if you wish). Don't be scared! Play with the config, you'll find plenty of new stuff to do with AA-Alien annihilation. For example, one of the settings I love is putting the drones on flee critters and the critters on seek drones, with just one drone and thirty critters. The critters hunt in packs that makes them easier to kill and make quite a good splat when they die (with, let say, the RPG...).
BTW my email is (and I just love a good chat ;-) ):
