Purple Planet Software RELEASES FLABBERGASTED! v1.10 SOFTWARE TOY
(Provo, UT--January 12th, 1998)--Four years ago, Eric Jorgensen's
1-year-old son David wanted to be on the computer with Daddy.
Looking around and unable to find age-appropriate software,
Jorgensen set out to write a program his little David would enjoy.
Being just a grown-up kid himself, Jorgensen filled the program with
"neat" effects, music, and sounds. The little project turned into
a big one as friends and neighbors saw the program and wanted a copy
for their kids.
Considering carefully the factors which make a toy "fun" led
Jorgensen to develop FLABBERGASTED! A computer-based software
toy which keeps kids entertained while developing and encouraging
critical skills of exploration and creativity.
Children love FLABBERGASTED! for a number of reasons: 1) It's easy.
Any child who can press a key or move a mouse can begin playing
FLABBERGASTED! immediately. There are no rules or obstacles
to frustrate a child. 2) It's deep. There are millions of things
you can do with FLABBERGASTED!. Even older children will enjoy
playing it, because of the vast exploratory opportunities. 3) It's
interesting! A vast array of images, music, sounds, and animations
can keep a child busy for hours.
FLABBERGASTED!, the software toy, is fast, smart, full of whimsical
music and graphical effects. Kids can draw pictures, launch
fireworks, play music, and apply over many different effects, sounds,
and animations. They can even direct their own "videos" to
syncronized music.
His advice to anyone looking for quality children's software?
"Avoid toys (and software) that force your kids into a specific
mode of play." Says Jorgensen. "Things like action figures and
cartoon-themed games don't keep a child's interest nearly as well
as simpler toys like building blocks or paints. Those simple
toys also get the child to invent rules of play, which encourages
creativity."
Finally, Purple Planet Software has announced the release of
FLABBERGASTED! v1.10. Interested kids and parents can
download a free 30-day evaluation version from the Purple Planet Software
web site. The evaluation package comes with three songs. Buying
the full retail version of FLABBERGASTED!, a user will get 15
additional songs, a full set of musical instrument samples, and
a screen saver interface.
FLABBERGASTED! is only the start, children can also save their
pictures. For a small fee, Purple Planet Software will even print the
child's picture on a T-Shirt or even a mouse pad.
And Purple Planet Software? What are their plans? "We will
continue to provide fun software for kids which will be used and
abused just like their everyday toys", says Jorgensen. "We have
a huge market out there for just plain, old, fun software."
Certainly, if Purple Planet Software can consistently deliver compelling
kid's software like FLABBERGASTED!, 1998 will present a new set
of challenges for the fledgling company. Growing pains.
