- INCLUDES COMET, COMMIT, AND BOODLE (NEWMARKET). THIS PROGRAM IMPLEMENTS THEM
- ALL.

- ALL OF THESE GAMES WERE BORN AROUND THE TIME OF THE RETURN OF HALLEY'S COMET
- TO EARTH IN 1759. COMMIT IS JUST BAD SPELLING FOR COMET. THE GOAL IS ALWAYS

- APPROACHING AND IT'S TIME TO LEAVE YOUR VEHICLE AND JOIN IT (JUST KIDDING, SOME
- EARTHLINGS ARE REAL CARDS, HA HA). BOODLE DEVELOPED FROM COMET, AND MICHIGAN
- FROM BOODLE, BY POPULAR DEMAND, TO HAVE LUCK PLAY A LARGER ROLE IN COMPARISON TO

- DISCARD HIS CARDS FASTER USUALLY. THERE IS A PENALTY FOR HOLDING A COMET WHEN
- ANOTHER PLAYER BEATS YOU AND GOES OUT FIRST.

- A LAYOUT IS PLACED ON THE TABLE PRIOR TO THE DEAL: ACE OF DIAMONDS, KING OF
- CLUBS, QUEEN OF DIAMONDS (THE CASH QUEEN), JACK OF SPADES.

- BOODLE: PRIOR TO THE DEAL, DEALER ANNOUNCES THE NUMBER OF CHIPS THAT EACH
- PLAYER MUST ANTE TO THE LAYOUT, FROM 4-10. EACH PLAYER MAY DISTRIBUTE HIS
- CHIPS AS HE PLEASES ON THESE BOODLE OR MONEY CARDS.

- MICHIGAN: PRIOR TO THE DEAL, DEALER ANTES 2 CHIPS, AND EACH OTHER PLAYER ANTES
- 1 CHIP, ON EACH BOODLE CARD.

- THE ANTE AND THE POOL:
- IN ADDITION TO THE BOODLE CARDS THERE IS A POOL OR POT ON THE TABLE.
- BEFORE THE DEAL ALL PLAYERS ANTE AN EQUAL NUMBER OF CHIPS TO THE POOL, FROM
- 0-10.

- THE DEAL:
- COMET AND BOODLE: DEALER DEALS CARDS ONE AT A TIME TO THE REAL PLAYERS, AND THE
- CARDS REMAINING ARE SET DOWN FACE DOWN AS THE DUMMY. PLAYERS EACH RECEIVE FROM
- 6 TO 18 CARDS (FOR 8 TO 2 PLAYERS IN GAME), LEAVING THE DUMMY FROM 3 TO 12.
- RUN THE PROGRAM TO SEE THE EXACT NUMBER.

- COMMIT: DEALER DEALS CARDS ONE AT A TIME TO THE REAL PLAYERS AS FAR AS THEY
- GO EVENLY. THE REMAINDER ARE THEN USED AS THE DEAD HAND.

- DEALER DEALS CARDS ONE AT A TIME TO THE LEFT BEGINNING WITH THE WIDOW. THE
- WHOLE PACK IS DEALT EVEN THOUGH SOME HANDS MAY END UP WITH MORE CARDS THAN
- OTHERS.

- THE AUCTION (MICHIGAN ONLY):
- THE WIDOW HAND IS THE PROPERTY OF THE DEALER. HE MAY EXCHANGE IT FOR HIS
- ORIGINAL HAND, OR ELSE HE MUST AUCTION IT TO THE HIGHEST BIDDER. IF SOMEBODY
- BUYS IT THEY TRADE THEIR HAND WITH IT. THEREAFTER NOBODY CAN LOOK AT IT.
- THE AUCTION IS CONDUCTED STARTING WITH ELDEST HAND, AND ONCE A PLAYER PASSES
- HE DROPS OUT OF THE AUCTION; THE DEALER IS EXCLUDED FROM THE AUCTION BECAUSE
- HE IS THE SELLER.

- COMET:
- ELDEST HAND BEGINS BY LEADING ANY CARD IN HIS HAND. HE CONTINUES PLAY SO LONG
- AS HE CAN ADD CARDS IN ASCENDING SEQUENCE IN ANY SUIT. ALL CARDS PLAYED ARE
- STACKED IN ONE PILE IN THE CENTER OF THE TABLE AND PEEKING BACK IS NOT
- PERMITTED. WHEN A PLAYER CANNOT CONTINUE, THE TURN THEN PASSES TO THE PLAYER
- ON HIS LEFT (RIGHT ON THE SCREEN), WHO MUST CONTINUE FROM THE POINT WHERE THE
- SEQUENCE WAS INTERRUPTED, SUIT BEING DISREGARDED. IF HE CAN'T PLAY AT ALL HE
- PASSES. A HAND MUST PLAY IN TURN IF ABLE AND CONTINUE SO LONG AS POSSIBLE,
- EXCEPT THAT IF THE ONLY PLAYABLE CARD IS THE COMET HE MAY PASS IN ORDER TO
- PRESERVE IT.

- WHENEVER A PLAYER PLAYS A KING HE EFFECTS A STOP (ORIGINALLY, HOC) AND STARTS
- A NEW SEQUENCE BEGINNING WITH ANY CARD IN HIS HAND HE CHOOSES. A PLAYER MAY
- ALSO START A NEW SEQUENCE IF ALL THE OTHER PLAYERS HAVE PASSED. PLAY CONTINUES
- UNTIL ONE PLAYER'S HAND IS EXHAUSTED AND HE GOES OUT. A COMET ACTS AS A WILD
- CARD, AND WHEN ONE IS PLAYED THE PLAYER GETS TO START A NEW SEQUENCE.

- COMET VALUE:
- IN COMET, WHEN A PLAYER PLAYS A COMET HE IMMEDIATELY COLLECTS N CHIPS FROM EVERY
- OTHER PLAYER, WHERE N IS THE COMET BASE VALUE, 2 INITIALLY, BUT DOUBLING FOR
- EVERY HAND WHERE IT IS DEALT TO DEAD HANDS UNTIL IT IS USED.

- COMMIT:
- PLAY IS AS IN COMET EXCEPT THAT THE 9 OF DIAMONDS IS THE COMET; ITS OWNER MAY
- CHOOSE TO PLAY IT WHEN UNABLE TO PLAY NORMALLY, AND COLLECTS 2 CHIPS
- IMMEDIATELY FROM EACH OTHER PLAYER; A PLAYER PLAYING A KING WINS 1 CHIP FROM
- EACH PLAYER.

- BOODLE:
- ELDEST HAND BEGINS BY LEADING ANY SUIT, BUT MUST LEAD THE LOWEST RANKING CARD
- HE HOLDS OF THAT SUIT. THE HAND HOLDING THE NEXT-HIGHER RANK OF THAT SUIT
- THEN MUST PLAY IT, AND SO ON UNTIL EITHER A KING IS PLAYED, OR A STOP IS
- REACHED, MEANING THAT THE DEAD HAND HAS THE NEEDED CARD. THE HAND THAT PLAYED
- LAST BEFORE THE STOP THEN MAY START A NEW SEQUENCE, PROVIDED HE PLAYS THE
- LOWEST RANKING CARD IN HIS HAND OF THE CHOSEN SUIT, WHICH MAY EVEN BE THE SAME
- AS THE SUIT THAT WAS JUST STOPPED. EACH PLAYER PLAYS HIS CARDS TO HIS OWN PILE
- IN FRONT OF HIM, BUT CARDS BENEATH THE TOP ONE CANNOT BE PEEKED BACK AT.

- MICHIGAN:
- ELDEST HAND LEADS ANY CARD, BUT IT MUST BE THE LOWEST RANK HE HOLDS IN THAT
- SUIT. THE PLAYER HOLDING THE NEXT-HIGHER RANK OF THAT SUIT THEN PLAYS IT,
- AND SO ON UNTIL THE PLAY IS STOPPED BY THE PLAY OF THE ACE, OR BECAUSE THE
- REQUIRED CARD IS IN THE DEAD HAND. THE HAND THAT LAST PLAYED BEFORE A STOP
- THEN STARTS A NEW SEQUENCE, PROVIDED HE CAN CHANGE SUIT. IF HE CANNOT, HE
- MUST PASS AND THE TURN PASSES TO HIS LEFT. IF ALL PASS, THE DEAL IS ENDED
- WITHOUT FURTHER SCORING. EVERY NEW SEQUENCE MUST BE STARTED WITH THE LOWEST
- RANKING CARD OF THE SUIT IN THE PLAYER'S HAND. EACH PLAYER PLAYS HIS CARDS TO
- HIS OWN PILE IN FRONT OF HIM, BUT CARDS BENEATH THE TOP ONE CANNOT BE PEEKED

- WHEN A PLAYER PLAYS A CARD DUPLICATING A BOODLE CARD, HE TAKES ALL THE CHIPS
- ON THAT CARD IMMEDIATELY. CHIPS REMAIN ON BOODLE CARDS BETWEEN HANDS UNTIL
- DULY WON.
