Carolina Poker (CP) is a video poker simulation game based upon the
games located throughout the State of South Carolina, as well as other
States and Online Casinos. CP allows video poker/casino players an
opportunity to play, practice, and test theories without spending
large sums of money. CP deals hands through the use of a randomly
seeded random number generator. No special methods are used to
insure winning or losing hands. Although the author has no sure
knowledge of how the video poker games are designed, long term testing
has shown the hands dealt with CP and the real video poker games are
very much similar. As CP keeps track of winning and losing amounts on
the main menu, players are allowed to track long-term success/failure.
II. Main Menu
The main menu has several features to allow the player choice of play.
Play Settings
This allows the player to choose from quarter, dollar, five dollar and
ten dollar settings. The bets allowed in each game are based upon this
setting. The bets of each game is from 1 to 20 times the amount of the
play settings. For example, if $1.00 is selected, then the bet allowed
ranges from $1.00 to $20.00. If $5.00 is selected, then the bet is
from $5.00 to $100.00. Video poker machines are mainly in the $0.25
or $1.00 setting.
Double Up (Status Bar)
The Status Bar shows whether Double Up play is allowed. Clicking on
the status bar toggles this setting between Off and On. If Double Up
is enabled, then each winning hand is followed by the opportunity to
double (or lose entirely) the hand. If selected, and a player wins
a hand, he/she is given a chance to 'double up'. If chosen, then
another window opens with a solitary card to be dealt. The player
chooses either high or low, and the card is dealt (randomly, with a
dealing of an 8 re-dealt). If the player chooses low, and a 2 - 7 card
is dealt, or chooses high, and a 9 - A card is dealt, then the winnings
for the hand are doubled. If the card is dealt high and the player
has selected low, or the card is low, and the player chooses high, then
the player wins nothing for the hand. This proceeds until the player
either decides to keep his/her winnings, or chooses incorrectly.
Choice of Game
The player has a choice of four games (only 'Deuces Wild' if the program is not registered) from which to choose. All four are based upon the current video poker market. 'Deuces Wild' has a deck of 52 cards, with each of the four deuces 'wild'. 'Deuces Wild' has winnings for 'Three of a Kind' or better. 'Jacks or Better' has a deck of 52 cards, with no wild cards, and winning hands start with a 'Pair of Aces'. 'Joker Wild' has a deck of 52 cards, plus one joker. This may seem strange, but playing video poker has shown only one joker in the deck. Winning hands start with 'Three of a Kind'. The last game is 'Treasure Trips'. 'Treasure Trips' offers a deck of 52 cards, plus one joker, and hands that win starting with 'Two Pair'. In addition, if a hand of 'three threes (trips)' or more are dealt or drawn, then the player receives bonus winnings. A similar game seems most popular among video poker players. The games have bet limits set according to 'Play Settings' and winnings/losses are transferred back to the main menu after play.
Clear Button
The 'Clear' Button allows the player to zero out the Winning/Losses
amount on the main menu. There is no check, so use this button only
when you are sure you want the total win/losses cleared. Additionally,
if a credit amount exist in the main menu, then that amount is given
to any game chosen, to be used as credits. If a debit (negative)
amount exist, then no amount is transferred.
Exit Button
The 'Exit' Button allows the player to quit the game. The win/loss
settings are saved to file, along with registration information.
Help Button
The 'Help' Button opens a small, general purpose help screen, which
gives a small listing of information contained in this file.
Registration Button (unregistered versions only)
Unregistered versions of Carolina Poker have an additional button which
allows the player to find information on how to register his/her copy
of Carolina Poker. When the player registers his/her copy, this button
disappears. This button will open a registration window with pertinent
information, and a method and location of registering his/her copy.
*Note* In the event of a system failure, this button may reappear and
require re-entry of the registration number. Should this happen, the
player should re-enter the registration number. Please keep a copy of
this number for this purpose.
III. Games
All Games are built the same, with only their winning hands, winning
amounts, and bonuses (if any) different. This allows the player to
easily learn only one game, and then have full knowledge of how each
game is played. For games with wild cards, each wild card is taken to
represent any card required to fill a winning hand. Each game has the
following features.
Upper left black box shows the winning hands and their respective pay-
outs. As the player increases the bet, the payouts are adjusted to
match. The credit box is where the player 'purchases' credits to be
used in the game. The amounts are equal to standard US treasury bills,
in denominations of $1.00, $5.00, $10.00, $20.00, $50.00, $100.00,
$500.00, and $1000.00. Along the bottom is a box for play statistics.
Here, the game keeps track of how many credits (in dollars) are bought,
and how much winnings are collected. The winnings are not transferred
until the player uses the 'Cash Out' Button (as in real video poker).
Until this time, the credits are stored in the 'credit' box. Also
included in the play statistics is the 'Net Winnings' or 'Net Losses'
box. This figure is calculated by 'Credits Purchased' minus (-)
'Winnings'. This figure is transferred back to the main menu. If the
player quits the game with credits, then these credits are first
transferred to the 'Winnings' box in the 'Play Statistics' frame, and
then transferred back to the Main Menu. The 'Play Statistics' frame
is to keep track of the overall game. For Statistics about the current
play, a box is located below the main title. In this box, the 'Credits' of the current game are stored, along with the 'Bet' amount, the amount 'Won' in this game and the winnings for the previous game ('Last'). To play, the player must first 'Purchase' 'Credits' by using the 'Purchase' button in the credit frame. This amount of money is
transferred to the 'Credit' Box. As each game is played, the amount of
the 'Bet' is taken from the 'Credits'. If the player wins, then the
amount won is placed back into the 'Credit' box. At the end of the
game, if more money is 'Purchased' than 'Won', the 'Net Losses' are
transferred back to the main menu. If more is 'Won' than 'Purchased',
then the 'Net Winnings' are transferred back to the Main Menu.
Additionally, the following buttons are provided to play, with some
of the buttons used for different purposes as play progresses.
Purchase
Allows the player to purchase dollar credits.
Help
Allows the player to open a small window with help instructions.

purchased.

winnings box, and thus re-calculate net winnings/net losses.

all cards that are not held (indicated by the word 'Held' above the

score and 'not' double up the winnings.

doubled. If the player chooses incorrectly, then the winnings are
zero. There is an unlimited amount of double up chances per hand.
Cards
Cards are held for the draw by clicking on the respective card. If the
player wants to keep the first card, then that card can be clicked, and
the word 'Hold' will appear above the card. This card will not be
dealt on the draw. This should be done for each card the player wishes
to keep (not draw).
IV. Statistics
Statistics are kept both on the game level and the total play level.
Each game's statistics are kept in the bottom frame of each game. The
total statistics are kept on the Main Menu. The statistics at the game
level are cleared when the game is exited. The statistics at the total
play level are cleared with the 'Clear' button on the main menu. The
computer will keep track of the winnings/losings for each hand, game,
and installation.
V. Future Versions

for casino/video gambling game simulations. If enough copies are sold

draw odds calculator to help the player determine the best cards to
keep and/or draw.

software, the user will gain access to all four games with no
