  93. System Requirements
  94.  
  95.   The minimum software and hardware requirements your computer system
  96.   needs to run Ditto successfully are shown in the following list.

  98.   o Windows version 3.1 or later. This program should run with all
  99.     Windows based operating systems including Windows for Workgroups,
  100.     Windows NT, and Windows 95.

  102.   o 2.0 megabyte (MB) of free disk space.
  103.  
  104.   o A mouse.

  106. Installation Procedures
  107.  
  108.   Installing Ditto on your computer is simple. To install, follow these
  109.   steps:
  110.  
  111.   1. Start the Windows application and select the Program Manager.
  112.  
  113.   2. Select the run entry from the File menu item.
  114.  
  115.   3. Insert the Ditto disk into the disk drive.
  116.  
  117.   4. Keyin the letter of the drive that you inserted the disk into
  118.      followed by ":\setup" in the command line field. For example,
  119.      if the disk is in drive "a" you would type:
  120.  
  121.      a:\setup
  122.  
  123.      Next, select the OK button on the dialog box. This will cause
  124.      Ditto's setup executable to start running.
  125.  
  126.      Note: Instead of running setup from the run menu entry, you also
  127.      can simply double click setup.exe from the Program Manager or
  128.      Windows Explorer.
  129.  
  130.   5. The setup executable will display a dialog box with a default
  131.      directory specified in the field. If you want to install the files
  132.      in another directory, key it in in this field.
  133.  
  134.   6. Select the Install button on the dialog box and the files will be
  135.      installed. If the specified directory does not exist, it will be
  136.      created for you.
  137.  
  138.   7. If no errors have occurred during installation, a dialog box
  139.      claiming successful completion will be displayed when all files
  140.      have been copied and expanded.
  141.  
  142.    If the installation was successful, a Sage program group will be
  143.    created in the Program Manager. This will contain the Ditto program
  144.    item. When you double click on this, Ditto will begin execution.
  145.  
  146. Online Help
  147.  
  148.    Ditto's Online Help can be accessed in two different ways once it is
  149.    running:
  150.  
  151.    By selecting the Help entry under the Help menu item.
  152.    By selecting the F1 key from the keyboard.
  153.  
  154.    The Online Help contains information that explains all aspects of
  155.    this game and describes how to use all its functionality. This
  156.    should be the user's main source of help.
  157.  
  158.    Once the Help window is displayed, the buttons near the top help you
  159.    find the information you need. The Contents button displays a list
  160.    of Help topics that Ditto provides. The Search button displays a
  161.    dialog box where you specify a topic to search for. The Back button
  162.    displays the previously viewed topic. The History button displays a
  163.    chronological list of all Help topics viewed during your current
  164.    game session.

  166.    If you need to learn how to use Help, press the F1 key on the keyboard
  167.    while the Help window is open.

  169. Start Playing
  170.  
  171.    Once Ditto is installed, start the game by double clicking the left
  172.    mouse button on the Ditto program item that was created by the setup
  173.    executable. After doing this, Ditto will begin execution by
  174.    displaying the introduction screen. To stop this introduction and
  175.    go to the main screen simply click the left mouse button.
  176.  
  177.    To begin playing, select the Start entry under the Game menu item.
  178.    You can also simply select the F2 key on your keyboard. Once this
  179.    is done buttons will appear in the window and play begins.

  181. Rules of the Game
  182.  
  183.    Object of the Game
  184.    The object of the game is to score as many points as you can by
  185.    repeating the button sequence that is shown to you.
  186.  
  187.    How points are scored
  188.    Each time you select the correct button in sequence you are rewarded
  189.    points. As the sequence of button selections gets longer, the amount
  190.    of points rewarded for a correct button selection increases. Also,
  191.    the more buttons that are present on the screen increases the
  192.    rewarded points.
  193.  
  194.    How to play
  195.    To start the game, select the Start entry under the Game menu item.
  196.    You can also simply select the F2 key on your keyboard. Once this
  197.    is done buttons will appear in the window. After a short pause one
  198.    of the buttons will light up and the message "YOUR TURN" will
  199.    appear at the top of the window. This means that it is time for you
  200.    to select the same button that was just shown to you. If you make
  201.    the correct selection the sequence of button selections shown to
  202.    you will increase by one and you will once again be required to
  203.    repeat the button sequence just shown to you.
  204.  
  205.    Types of games
  206.    There are four different types of games to choose from. These
  207.    different games can be selected under the Game Definition entry
  208.    under the Game menu item. When the 3 Buttons, 4 Buttons, or 6
  209.    Buttons game is selected, the specified number of buttons will
  210.    remain throughout the game. As you play these games, the sequence
  211.    of button selections will continue to increase by one until you
  212.    make an incorrect selection. Once you make a mistake the sequence
  213.    will start back at one and increase by one again until your next
  214.    mistake. The Progressive game is a little different. There are goals
  215.    that enable you to advance to higher levels. The goal represents
  216.    the length of a sequence that you must complete successfully to
  217.    advance to the next level. The next level represents a different
  218.    button configuration which contains one more button then the
  219.    previous level. Once you complete one goal, the number of buttons
  220.    on your screen will increase by one and the sequence length will
  221.    reset to one. When you make a mistake, the game will reset to level
  222.    one, sequence one, no matter what level or sequence you are
  223.    presently on.

  225.    Game over
  226.    Once you have made three incorrect selections the game is over. If
  227.    you have scored enough points to make the high score, the High Score
  228.    dialog box will automatically display to allow you to enter your
  229.    name.
