- HEBREW FLASHCARDS
-
-
- Description:
-
- HEBREW FLASHCARDS was written for the beginning
- student desiring to learn the Hebrew language. Word
- definitions, English transliterations, and where
- applicable, Strong's concordance numbers, are available to
- the user within this program. Interactive, on-screen
- quizzes are also available.
-
-
- Requirements:
-
- To run HEBREW FLASHCARDS, your IBM PC (or
- compatible) must have DOS 3.0 or higher, and a graphics
- adapter (CGA, EGA or VGA).
-
-
- To begin:
-
- Load the program by typing --> HFC then press
- [ENTER] The program will auto-detect your video card,
- however if you wish to force the program to accept a
- different resolution, you can use the following command
- line parameters:
-
- HFC /C = this will use CGA low resolution graphics
- HFC /H = this will use Hercules monochrome graphics
- HFC /E = this will use EGA high resolution graphics
-
- Even though you may have EGA or VGA graphics, you
- may wish to experiment forcing the program to use low
- resolution CGA. CGA will make the graphic displays more
- bold. You can also adjust the video resolution from within
- the program (see "Options" from Main Menu).
-
-
-
- Menu selections:
-
- HEBREW FLASHCARDS is rather straight forward. A
- Main Menu appears offering the user numerous "flashcard"
- categories. Press the key which corresponds to the
- category the user wishes to view.
-
-
- When in a sub-menu selection, the user can press
- the [ESC] key to return to the previous menu display. If
- the user continues to press [ESC], they will soon find
- themselves back at the Main Menu.
-
- The "O" selection from the Main Menu will bring up
- an "options" menu. There are several options which can be
- selected - just position the highlighted menu selection bar
- over your choice, then press [ENTER]. (You can also make
- option selections by pressing the key that corresponds to
- the first letter of the option selection. First letter
- selections are only available within "Options"!) A "√"
- mark indicator will be displayed next to each option that
- is turned "on".
-
-
- Quizzes:
-
- There are two quiz options available to the user -
- Sequential and Random. Although only one of these options
- is displayed in the Quiz options sub-menu, the other can
- be toggled by selection. Position the highlighted menu
- selection bar over "Sequential", press [ENTER], and
- "Random" will be toggled and displayed where "Sequential"
- used to be. The same applies vice versa - Random back to
- Sequential.
-
- Sequential quizzes will display a word/card in
- alphabetical order. Random quizzes, on the other hand,
- will display a word/card in a random manner, i.e., in no
- specific order.
-
- Within a quiz, the user will be prompted for
- a defintion. A score in the form of a percentage is
- displayed to show the user's progress. In the case of the
- "alphabet", when the "quiz" option is "on," the user must
- identify whether one letter of the alphabet comes
- before or after another letter. Press [A] if the first
- letter appears "AFTER" the second letter, else press [B] if
- the letter occurs "BEFORE" the second letter. This
- "alphabet" order quiz will always be Random, regardless of
- whether the "Sequential" quiz option is turned on or not.
- There is no quiz available for "vowels".

- Guide to English Transliterations:
-
- An attempt has been made in HEBREW FLASHCARDS to
- give an English transliteration for every Hebrew word
- and phrase. Although each English transliteration has
- been made as simple to understand as possible, the
- following guide can be used in questionable cases:
-
- "AH" = sounds like "a" in "yacht"
- "AW" = rhymes with "saw"
- "EH" = sounds like "e" in "let"
- "IGH" = rhymes with "eye"
- "OH" = sounds like "oa" in "oat"
- "OKE" = rhymes with "smoke"
- "OO" = sounds like "ew" in "few"
- "OW" = rhymes with "cow"
-
-
- To escape and return to Main Menu:
-
- When viewing flashcards, or taking a quiz, the
- user can always return to the Main Menu screen by pressing
- the [ESC] key.
-
-
- To exit:

- To exit the program, the user must press [X] or
- [ESC] at the Main Menu.
