- Instructions For Game Play
- ==========================================================================
-
- THE GAME SCREEN
- The game screen is divided into two sections: the View Window and the
- Control Bar. The View Window is where the game takes place. What
- you see is exactly what your character, Sir Cendric, sees. The Control Bar
- is explained below.
-
-
- THE COMMANDS
- There are seven Command Buttons and four Directional Arrows at the bottom
- of your game screen. To select a command, position the hand cursor over
- the Command Button and click the left mouse button. (NOTE: If you are
- using the keyboard instead of a mouse, use the arrow keys to position the
- hand and press ENTER to choose a command. In these instructions, "Click"
- refers to clicking the left mouse button or pressing the ENTER key.)
-
-
- LOOK
- This command allows your character to look closely at any section of the View
- Window. Position hand icon on LOOK button and click. Then position hand
- icon where you want to look and click. You will receive a detailed description
- of the area.
-
-
- DO
- This command allows you to manipulate objects in the View Window. Position
- hand icon on DO button and click. Then position hand icon over what you wish
- to do (for example, open a door) and click.
-
- ITEMS
- To invoke this command, position hand icon on ITEMS button. Click LEFT mouse
- button and your inventory will be displayed. Position hand icon over
- the item you want described and click.
-
- To make use of an item you have taken, position hand icon over the item
- you wish to use and click. The hand icon will become the item you have
- selected. Position this item icon where you want to use the selected item
- in the View Window, and click.
-
- MAGIC
- Use spells in a similar manner to the items.
-
-
- SWITCHING MODES
- Click the RIGHT mouse button to switch between modes quickly.
-
-
- THE DIRECTIONAL ARROWS
- Choosing an Arrow will allow you to move to different rooms in the
- castle. Your character will move North, South, East or West regardless
- of which direction your character may be facing. Pay attention to which
- Arrows are lighted. You can only move in those directions. Sometimes
- exits will be hidden or blocked. You must open them before the
- corresponding Arrow will light and allow you to proceed. To move,
- position hand icon on the Arrow that corresponds to the direction you
- want to go and click.
-
- To the left of the Directional Arrows are the Stairs Icons. These will light
- up when you are in a room with a staircase. To climb the stairs up or down,
- position hand icon on the Stairs Icon and click.
-
- REGISTER
- Click here after you after registered the game. You may enter the
- registration code on the on-screen keyboard. Then you will have
- access to the complete game. The same registration code will also work
- for SerpentHead Deluxe.
-
- QUIT
- Click the QUIT button to leave the game and return to your operating
- system. Be sure to save your game before quitting.
-

- Options Screen you may load a saved game, save a game, adjust brightness,
- and turn sound on or off.
-
- OPTIONS SCREEN COMMANDS:
-
- SAVING A GAME
- From the options menu, choose SAVE GAME. Use the arrow keys to highlight
- a game slot. Press ENTER key. Give your saved game a name of up to eight
- characters and press ENTER. If you pick a slot that was not empty, the game
- that was previously saved there will be replaced by your game.
-

- a game slot. Press ENTER key to restore saved game.
-

- trouble seeing the screen, you may have to adjust the brightness on your
- monitor.
-
- You must have a SoundBlaster compatible soundcard to hear the sound effects
- and music. The soundcard must be configured in standard mode, that is,
- base address 220, IRQ 5, DMA channel 1. If set incorrectly, you may hear the
- music at the beginning of the program, but the sound effects will not work
- properly. If your computer is not set for standard SoundBlaster emulation,
- then please run the SetSound utility. If you do not have a SoundBlaster
- compatible soundcard, then please answer NO when asked if you want
- SoundBlaster sound effects.
