  4. Shareware
  5. Atoms, Symbols and Equations is Shareware ('try before you buy software'). If you 
  6. wish to continue using it after a 30 day trial, you must register (pay for) it.

  8. Overview
  9. A unique interactive Multimedia Chemistry Tutor which tests students as they learn 
  10. (it uses the internal speaker if you don't have a soundcard). As far as possible, 
  11. skills are taught through familiar examples, to help reinforce general chemical 
  12. knowledge. New concepts are taught by frequent reference to the online Periodic
  13. Tables. The eight units are: Word Equations; Elements and Symbols; Valency
  14. and Formulas; Models of Reacting Molecules (molecular models); Symbol Equations;
  15. Atomic Structure; Formation of Ions; Ions, Formulas and Equations.

  17. Options
  18. There is an option to 'trap' the user within a unit once started (to help 
  19. teachers ensure that pupils stay on task), with a password required to exit. 
  20. The decision whether to trap users and the password can be changed by running 
  21. the program 'options.exe'(click on the 'Change Options' icon in the  'Atoms
  22. Symbols & Equations' group or folder).

  24. System Requirements
  25. Almost any computer running Windows 3.1/Win 95 or above (PC 386 or above, 4mb ram,
  26. vga/svga monitor).

  28. Installation
  29. 1. Run install.exe from the floppy disc (Win 3.1 - from program manager select 
  30.    file/run and type a:\install;  Win95 - from the start menu, select run and type 
  31.    a:\install)  
  32. 2. Follow simple on-screen instructions (answer yes or OK unless there is good reason).

  34. That's it!  The program is now fully installed and ready for use.
  35. You will be given the option to run the program immediately.

  37. Running the Program
  38. Win 3.1 
  39. Click on the 'equations' icon in the 'Atoms Symbols & Equations' group which will
  40. be on your desktop.

  43. From the start menu, select programs and then the 'Atoms Symbols & Equations' folder. 
  44. Then select the 'equations' icon to run the program.

  47. Uninstall Information
  48. Atoms, Symbols and Equations does not change your system files and uses 
  49. the program folder/directory (equation) for all it's own files, except vbrun300.dll
  50. which is copied to the WindowsSystem directory. This file is used by many Windows
  51. programs and is best left on your system.

  55. implied warranties. I have run the programs on a number of machines but cannot
  56. possibly anticipate all possible variations of software and hardware that the 
  57. programs may be run under. Therefore, the user must assume the entire risk of using

  59. the use of, or inabilty to use, these programs.
