  20. 1. GENERAL DESCRIPTION
  21.  
  22. The crossword puzzle is the most widely played word  game, which is
  23. familiar to everyone.  This program combines that entertainment while
  24. providing puzzles with educational value.  Features include saving
  25. and restoring of incomplete puzzles, printing puzzles, word auto
  26. check, clue auto advance, word hints (vowels, consonants, letters),
  27. and background style patterns.

  29. 2. PROGRAM OPERATION
  30.  
  31. Command Buttons:
  32. Load .............. Opens a dialog box to select a puzzle to load
  33.                 into memory.
  34. Save .............. Saves the currently loaded partially solved
  35.             puzzle for later restore.  
  36. Rest .............. Opens a dialog box to restore a previously saved
  37.             puzzle.
  38. Clear ............. Clears the currently loaded puzzle, you will be
  39.             prompt to save it, if not completed.
  40. Print ............. Prints the currently loaded puzzle to the Windows
  41.             default printer.  The puzzle may be printed
  42.             without answers, partially solved, or with
  43.             answers.
  44. Options ........... Set program options and the background style.
  45.  
  46. Options:
  47. Auto Advance ...... Enables word auto advance upon completion of a
  48.             word.
  49. Auto Check ........ Enables word auto check,  this will set the word
  50.             bold, if it is correct.  A progress bar indicates
  51.             the percentage of the puzzle which is completed.
  52. Hints ............. Enables the Hints Panel Buttons (Vow, Con, Let).
  53.             This allows 20% of the total Vowels, Consonants,
  54.             and Letters from the loaded puzzle as hints.

  56. Keyboard Functions:
  57. Page Up/Down ...... Used to select Across , or Down,  clue list boxes.
  58. Arrow Up/Down ..... Used to select a individual clue within a list box.
  59. Arrow Left/Right... Used to select a individual letter within a word.
  60.             The word is highlighted light gray and the letter
  61.             is highlighted cyan.
  62.  
  63. Mouse Functions ... You can use the mouse to select word positions or
  64.             word clues.  Selecting a clue with the left mouse
  65.             button highlights the word position.  Selecting
  66.             a word position with the left mouse button
  67.             selects the across clue, and selecting a word
  68.             position with the right mouse button selects the
  69.             down clue.

  71. 3. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

  73. 486 or better PC
  74. 8 meg RAM or better
  75. Microsoft Windows 95

  77. 2.5 meg of free disk space for program files

  92. There are two methods available for installation:
  93.  
  94. To install directly from the hard disk:
  95. Remove any CD-ROM's and/or diskette(s) from your before proceeding.
  96. Click the Start button, point to Settings, and then click Control
  97. Panel.  Double-click Add/Remove Programs, click Install and then click
  98. Next.  Click Browse, locate the directory where you have previously
  99. unzipped CXWORD31.ZIP, then click on Setup, click on Open, and click on
  100. Finish.  Follow the instructions provided by the setup program.

  102. After you have successfully installed the Xross Word program, you can
  103. delete all the files that were extracted from CXWORD31.ZIP from your
  104. hard drive, as they are no longer required.
  105.  
  106. To create installation diskettes:
  107. You will need two 1.44 Mb blank formatted diskettes.
  108.  
  109. Label the 1st diskette: "Centaurus Xross Word, ver 3.1, disk 1 of 2"
  110.  
  111. Copy to this 1st diskette, the following 10 files, that were extracted
  112. from CXWORD31.ZIP.
  113.

  116. msvcrt40.dl_    st4unst.ex_
  117. olepro32.dl_    stkit432.dl_

  120. Label the 2nd diskette: "Centaurus Xross Word, ver 3.1, disk 2 of 2"

  122. Copy to this 2nd diskette, the following 20 files, that were extracted
  123. from CXWORD31.ZIP.

  131. Setup Instructions:
  132. Insert disk 1 in drive A:, click the Start Button, point to Settings,
  133. and then click Control Panel.  Double-click Add/Remove Programs, 
  134. click Install, click Next, and then click Finish.  Follow the
  135. instructions provided by the setup program.

  137. After you have successfully installed the Xross Word program, you can
  138. delete all the files that were extracted from CXWORD31.ZIP from your
  139. hard drive, as they are no longer required.

  144. they do not exist, or if the existing installed files are not current

  164. 6. SHAREWARE REGISTRATION
  165.  
  166. This program is a unregistered version for evaluation use only.  It
  167. is distributed as Shareware,  which is based on the honor principal
  168. allowing you to try before you buy.  You may use this program for a
  169. trial period of 14 days at no cost. You will only have access to the
  170. 1st puzzle in each of the current 12 puzzle files.  If you continue to
  171. use it beyond the trial period, you are required to pay a registration
  172. fee of $10.00.  Upon doing so, you will receive a registration code by
  173. mail,  with instructions to register the program.  This will allow you
  174. to access all 201 currently available  puzzles, and the removal of the
  175. registration reminder screen.

  189. 8. UNINSTALLING
  190.  
  191. If you have saved any incomplete puzzles, you must delete them before
  192. uninstalling the program.  You can do this by starting Xross Word,
  193. click on Rest, and delete any saved puzzles that you see listed.

  195. Click the Start button, point to Settings, and then click Control
  196. Panel.  Double-click Add/Remove Programs, click Centaurus Xross Word,
  197. and then click on Add/Remove.
