  5. Game Requirements

  8. LOMAX BOULDERS requires:
  9.         --> VGA graphics card (vesa-compatible)
  10.         --> 560K (480,680 bytes) of free conventional RAM.
  11.         --> Hard drive.
  12.         --> 386DX or better.
  13.  
  14. Supports:
  15.         --> Sound Blaster or 100% compatible cards.

  17. Setup

  20. Before you start LOMAX BOULDERS, you should run LBCONFIG in order to 
  21. configure your sound card. To start the LBCONFIG program:
  22.  
  23.         Switch to the drive and directory that contains the BOULDERS.EXE file.  
  24.         For example:
  25.                 C:
  26.                 CD \BOULDERS
  27.  
  28.         Type LBCONFIG.

  31. Starting The Game

  34. Starting From MS-DOS
  35. --------------------
  36. Once you have setup your sound card using the LBCONFIG program, you're 
  37. ready to run the game.  Get into the directory where you have installed 
  38. LOMAX BOULDERS ( e.g. CD \BOULDERS ) and type BOULDERS.

  40. Running the Game From Windows
  41. -----------------------------
  42. We do not recommend running LOMAX BOULDERS from Microsoft Windows. Windows 
  43. requires too many system resources to allow LOMAX BOULDERS to play fast and 
  44. smooth.  You should exit Windows and run the game from DOS instead. To exit 
  45. Windows, use the 'File' menu in the Program Manager and select 'Exit Windows.'.

  48. Not Enough Memory
  49. ▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀

  51. LOMAX BOULDERS requires at least 480K of free DOS memory.  When you run the 
  52. program, it will check how much memory is available and if there is 
  53. insufficient memory to play the game, LOMAX BOULDERS will not load all of the
  54. brilliant sound effects. If there is still insufficient memory to play the 
  55. game, try this:
  56.         
  57. 1.  If you are using a DOS Shell, exit from this shell and run the game
  58.     from DOS only.
  59.  
  60. 2.  If you are launching LOMAX BOULDERS from Windows and get a memory error,
  61.     you must exit Windows and run the game from DOS only.
  62.  
  63. 3.  If you are completely in DOS and still do not have enough free memory
  64.     to run the game, you must either boot your computer clean or unload some 
  65.     of your TSR's and/or device drivers.  We'll tackle booting your computer 
  66.     clean.

  68. Booting clean using DOS 6.00 or better
  69. --------------------------------------
  70. MS DOS 6.00 has a special built in function that makes it very easy to boot 
  71. your computer clean.  When first booting your computer, MS DOS will 
  72. display the message "Starting MS-DOS...".  When you see this message, hit 
  73. your F5 key.  This will bypass your AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS thereby 
  74. allowing your computer to boot without memory managers and TSRs.
  75.  
  76. Booting clean using a boot disk
  77. -------------------------------
  78. If you have a version of MS DOS below MS DOS 6.00, then you must create a 
  79. special boot disk.  This boot disk will allow your computer to boot without
  80. any memory managers, drivers, or TSRs.  Here is how you create your boot
  81. disk:
  82.         I.   Find a blank disk and place it in your floppy dirve A:
  83.         II.  Type the command:
  84.                 FORMAT A: /S
  85.         III. Once the format is complete, you will have a bootable floppy.

  87. Now, to boot clean from a bootable floppy:
  88.         I.   Place the disk in drive A: and reset your computer.
  89.         II.  Patiently wait while your computer boots from the floppy disk. 
  90.              Once it is finished, you must change to your hard disk drive by
  91.              typing the drive letter.  For example, C:
  92.         III. Enter the directory where you installed LOMAX BOULDERS
  93.              ( e.g. CD \BOULDERS ) and type BOULDERS to start the game.

  96. Common Problems and Solutions
  97. ▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀

  99. PROB: Sometimes, the game locks up
  100. ----------------------------------
  101. This is a sound card related problem.  There are several causes for this:
  102.  
  103. I.   You are running QEMM with your sound card.  In most cases this will not
  104.      be a problem, however, if the game is locking up because of sound, it
  105.      may be caused by QEMM.  Try playing the game without QEMM. 
  106.  
  107. II.  One of your TSRs or device drivers is in conflict with LOMAX BOULDERS. 
  108.      For best results, try booting your computer clean.  Please refer to the 
  109.      section on booting clean.
  110.  
  111. III. Some sound cards are not 100% sound blaster compatible. LOMAX BOULDERS
  112.      is written for a 100% sound blaster compatible sound card. Try disabling 
  113.      your sound effects card in the LBCONFIG program and running the game 
  114.      without sound effects.
