  11. 1.                             INTRODUCTION

  13. Welcome, you are about to experience the wild west as Billy The Kid.
  14. Your goal is to stay alive, collect at least ten keys and then try to
  15. find the exit to the next level.  Pickup valuable items such as guns,
  16. money bags, gold, food, water, bottles, etc.  Avoid your enemies and
  17. shoot at bombs for extra points.

  19. Billy The Kid is a Western action arcade Game with many levels.  It
  20. features VGA horizontal, vertical and diagonal scrolling action and 3D
  21. overlapping objects.  Each episode looks and feels completely different
  22. and is full of surprises.  If you like the old west but you hate guns,
  23. there is a no-gun option.  This game has plenty of action and conflict
  24. but little or no violence against human opponents.

  68. 4.                         GAME OPERATION
  69.  
  70. Type  KID <Enter> to start, select an episode by using the arrow keys,
  71. or you may press ESC to exit the game.  Select "Start Game" from the
  72. main menu.  The Shareware version includes only episodes 1, 2 and 3,
  73. the rest are available only from Alive Software.  See file ORDER.TXT.

  75. 4.1                             CONTROL
  76.  
  77. Jump:  Press the CTRL key or Joystick button 1 to jump.  By holding the
  78. CTRL key down longer, you can jump higher.
  79.  
  80. Shoot straight: press the ALT key or Joystick button 2 to shoot straight
  81.  
  82. Double diagonal shot:  Press the SHIFT key for two diagonal shots.

  84. Move:  Use the Up, Down, Left, Right arrow keys or the Joystick to move
  85.        around.
  86.  
  87. Quit:  Press the ESC key to quit the game and return to main menu.

  89. Help:  Press the F1 key for a brief help screen.

  115. New Player      Change the current player's name.  This name will be

  131. 4.3                         GAME OBJECTIVES
  132.  
  133. You are William Bonney, a fifteen year old boy, better known as Billy
  134. The Kid.  The goal of the game is to stay alive, collect at least ten
  135. keys and then find the exit to the next level.  Pickup valuable items
  136. such as guns, money bags, gold, food, bottles, etc.  Shoot at bombs
  137. for extra points.  The game includes ten episodes from Billy's life.
  138.  
  139. * Escape from the Silver city prison.  Avoid the dogs and the guards.
  140. It is going to be a long journey under the hot New Mexico sun, so you
  141. must collect plenty of water, food and tools.
  142.  
  143. *  Alone in the New Mexico desert.  A big reward is been offered for
  144. your capture, so you decide to cross the desert and move west to
  145. Arizona.  The desert is full of wild buffaloes, desperados, horse
  146. thieves, rattle snakes and coachmen carrying food and guns to the near
  147. by military post.  Avoid stepping on bombs and dynamite sticks.  Pickup
  148. water, food, guns, knives and find the entrance to the old man's mine.
  149.  
  150. *  Old Man's Mine.  OK Billy, now you are inside the old man's mine.
  151. Get as much gold and rubies you can before the old man or his trained
  152. army of mice gets you.  Pickup ten keys and find the exit to Camp Grant.
  153.  
  154. * Sombrero Jack and his gang are terrorizing a tiny Arizona village.
  155. Here is your chance to eliminate the gang and get the stolen goods.
  156. You will find plenty of rattle snakes and buffaloes in the Camp.
  157. Try to find the entrance to captain Lightfoot's cave.
  158.  
  159. * You come upon Captain Lightfoot cave.  Rumor has it that the old
  160. pirate's treasure is buried in there.  Can you find it ?  Deadly
  161. lizards, rats and pirates are everywhere.

  163. * As you return back to New Mexico, you are ambushed by a group of
  164. Apache warriors.  Can you survive the attack ?  Thrill, danger and
  165. hard fighting awaits you.

  170. * As you move on, deadly Senioritas attack you without warning.

  172. * Nobody has dared to cross the ghost town.  You will need a fast
  173. draw and a lot of luck to survive.  Plenty of surprises await you.

  175. *  You have to outsmart and outrun the cavalry, sent by the governor
  176. to arrest you.

  178. *  Finally, you will meet at Fort Sumner your Nemesis, sheriff Pat
  179. Garrett.  Can you rewrite history and escape his deadly six-shooter ?

  181. SCORE :  You get points every time you pickup a valuable item or you
  182. shoot and hit an enemy.  You loose points when you get hit or step on
  183. a bomb.  To achieve very high scores you must start with episode 1 and
  184. work your way up, collecting points in each episode.

  186. HEALTH:  Every time you get hit or step on a bomb, you loose one health
  187. point.  If you run out of health points the game ends.  Look for
  188. special food items that give you extra health points.
