  12. Converts data base files to Word Perfect secondary merge files   
  13.  
  14. To start  the program enter dPERFECT at the DOS command line.
  15. If you are using a trial version, press any key to  pass  the
  16. registration  screen  (or  you  will  pause  for  9 seconds).
  17. Answer each question followed by [Enter].  To proceed without
  18. answering additional questions, use [F10]  to  continue.   To
  19. exit to the menu at any time, use [Esc].  To clear a response
  20. field,  use  [Ctrl-Y].   To  select  a  file from a directory
  21. listing, use [F2].  To select a field name from a field list,
  22. use [F4].

  25.           CREATE MERGE FILE

  27. "Enter path and filename of source data base file:"
  28.  
  29. This is the source data base from which  your  data  will  be
  30. read  and  converted.   This can be any valid dBase III Plus,
  31. Clipper, Foxbase, Foxpro or compatible data base.   Pathnames
  32. are  required  if  your  data  base  is  not  in  the current
  33. directory.  The ".DBF" extension is optional.  If you enter a
  34. filename that doesn't exist or is not a valid data base,  you
  35. will not exit from the field.  This is a required field.

  37. To view  a  directory  listing use [F2].  Enter the directory
  38. path you wish to view, including a DOS  file  skeleton  using
  39. the  wildcard  characters  "?" or "*".  To view all files use
  40. the "*.*"  skeleton.   To  view  a  listing  of  the  current
  41. directory,   just  press  [Enter].   To  scroll  through  the
  42. directory listing use [Up arrow], [Down  arrow],  [Home]  and
  43. [End].   To  select  a  file,  use [Enter].  To exit from the
  44. directory listing without selecting a file, use [Esc].

  46. "Enter key expression to create index:"
  47.  
  48. This is an optional field.  If you wish to dynamically create
  49. an index for your data base, enter a single field name  or  a
  50. compound  key expression (e.g.  STATE+CITY).  Your merge file
  51. will be sorted on this expression.  For  example,  to  create
  52. mailing  labels  in  zip code order, enter the zip code field
  53. name from your data base.  If you enter an invalid expression
  54. or field name, you will not exit from this field.   Memo  and
  55. logical  fields  are  not  allowed.   To  skip this question,
  56. press  [Enter].   For   more   examples,   see   "Key   Index
  57. Expressions" on Page 10

  59. The index  that  is  created  is  erased  before  exiting the
  60. program.  To select a field from a list of field  names,  use
  61. [F4].   To  scroll  through  the  list  use [Up arrow], [Down
  62. arrow], [Home] and [End].  To select a field  name  from  the
  63. list,  use  [Enter].   To  exit  the list without selecting a
  64. field, use [Esc].
