*** LATE-BREAKING NEWS ***
If you are currently a registered user of a previous
version of Command Post, you should have gotten an update
letter in the mail by now. If you didn't get it, then we
do not have your correct address. Call (206) 937-9335.
EVERYONE!
Please note the online HELP cardfile, CP_HELP.CRD accessible
from the Command Post menu. There is a SPECIAL SECTION in the front
of this cardfile that discusses functions NOT IN THE MANUAL.
ALSO Maybe you can save the cost of a phone call.....
The CP_QUEST.CRD cardfile on the disk (or Zip file) has a number
of common questions and answers that our tech support people
have been asked. Quite likely the answer to your question can be
found in this file.
Both CMDPOST.CPM and CMDUSER.CPM have been changed from previous
versions. Be sure to check out CMDUSER.CPM for the new clipboard
functions.
We've included a manual on disk, called CMDPOST.TXT, containing
all the text in the real manual, but without the illustrations.
There are some blank spaces in the text where the pictures go, so
use your imagination there.

Of course the usual disclaimers still apply. We are not
responsible for anything at all. Nothing. Even if we are
held responsible, the limit of our liability is the

HOW TO INSTALL COMMAND POST 7.0
Command Post may be installed automatically, via our INSTALL.EXE
program, or manually, following the instructions further below.
If, for some reason, you have problems with the automatic install,
then try the manual install...
*** AUTOMATIC INSTALL
1) Close down all extraneous Windows applications.
2) Double-Click on the INSTALL.EXE program
3) Answer questions and watch it go.
Note: The floppy or disk being installed FROM
MUST have at least 15K free space on it.
*** MANUAL INSTALL
1) DELETE all of the old Command Post and Browser and
Applet "{xxxxxxx.EXE" files from your disk.
2) Copy the CP_INST.SFX file to an empty directory.
3) Rename the CP_INST.SFX file to CP_INST.EXE
4) Run it. It will create all the necessary files.
5) Delete the CP_INST.EXE file.
6) Review the LICENSE.TXT file. If you do not agree to
the terms, delete all Command Post files and stop
installing.
7) Move all the .EXE files (except TASKMANR.EXE) to a
directory defined in your DOS PATH statement.
8) Edit WIN.INI. Remove CMDPOST.EXE from the LOAD= line,
and add CMDPOST.EXE to the RUN= line.
9) If you have Windows 3.0, see the special Windows 3.0
appendix in the manual (or the disk file CMDPOST.TXT).
10) Review the documentation files in the directory.
UN-INSTALL INSTRUCTIONS
If, for some reason you wish to un-install Command Post from your
system, here is a checklist for doing so.
1) Examine the SYSTEM.INI file. If you manually installed Command Post
as your primary shell (See Docs), you must edit the SYSTEM.INI file.
Change
shell=cmdpost.exe
to
shell=progman.exe
2) Examine the WIN.INI file.
Change
run=cmdpost.exe
to
run=
If there is other stuff on the run= line, you probably want to
leave it there. Just delete the cmdpost.exe from the run= line.
3) Delete the entire [CmdPost] and [Browser] (if it exists) sections
from the WIN.INI file. Actually you may leave them there, as
it really does not matter.
4) Delete the following files from the directory that Command Post was
installed into.
cmdpost.exe
cp_dll.exe
cp_dll3.exe
cp_tree.exe
browser.exe
wininfo.exe
cp_blnk.exe
cp_help.crd
cp_info.exe
cp_virt.bat
cmdpost.cpm
taskmanr.exe NOT TASKMANG.EXE OR TASKMAN.EXE !!!
cmduser.cpm (you may want to keep a copy around, esp. if you
have put some work into this file.)
In the CP-NOTES.TMP directory, delete all the files, and remove
the directory.
5) If a file TASKMANG.EXE (NOT TASKMANR.EXE) exists, rename it to
TASKMAN.EXE file. (This is probably in the Windows directory.)
This is only necessary if you replaced the Windows TASKMAN.EXE
with the Command Post version of it.
6) That should do it.
ON-LINE SUPPORT
Command Post is has on-line support on a number of computer systems.
First of all, the home of Command Post is on Compuserve, in the

The FidoNet Windows echomail conference is also monitored for Windows

be answered in the echo.
In addition, other Windows echomail conferences, SmartNet and Intellec,

be usually get an answer.
If you budget is not able to afford Compuserve, we strongly suggest

CHANGES TO THE MANUAL
In the Window 3.0 appendix we tell you how to replace
Windows 3.0's Task Manager with Command Post. Microsoft
has since renamed Task Manager to "Task List". The Command
Post version of the may be found in the \CP-NOTES.TMP directory
with the file name TASKMANR.EXE (If you used our install program).
If you used the manual install, you can find it in the temp
directory you used.
In addition, the cardfile CP_HELP.CRD is kept 100% up to date and
has a special section at the front that discusses new functions not
in the manual.
