ABOUT THIS TODAY DATABASE
Version 89.00 M
Bruce Goldman, Bob Braunwart
The file accompanying this document contains one month out of the TODAY
database. You will need the program NEWDAY/PC v. 3.5 or later. The program
will show you a list of birthdays of celebrities, historical figures,
scientists, explorers, etc. and a list of historical events for any day of the
year you specify.
The file included here contains the latest version of the data for one
month. The information has been compiled from many sources -- other TODAY
data files uploaded to this and other BBS's; almanacs and encyclopedias;
chronological lists for many subjects, etc. The data has been carefully
edited and the following changes have been made.
1. Thousands of erroneous entries have been corrected or deleted.
2. Hundreds of duplicates have been eliminated.
3. Where appropriate, European accented characters have been substituted
for their unaccented English equivalents.
4. We have personally added thousands of new entries to the database.
5. Punctuation, capitalization, etc. have been standardized throughout
the database.
6. The database has been divided into 12 monthly files for uploading to
this and other bulletin boards. I will upload each file a few days before the
beginning of the month. Since the database is constantly increasing in size,
I intend to continue doing this for more than one year. That way the newest
version will always be available just before the beginning of the correspond-
ing month. The first month uploaded was September, in 1988.
THIS IS THE MOST ACCURATE AND COMPREHENSIVE TODAY DATABASE CURRENTLY
AVAILABLE.
The total database contains more than 22,000 entries and is still grow-
ing. If you have more entries you would like to see included, please leave a
file or a message for me on this bulletin board. All types of entries are
welcome -- from trivial to major historical importance. I am particularly
looking for more entries with a Pacific Northwest, San Francisco or Hawaii
flavor.
Please enquire about specialized subsets of the database for yourself or
a friend. You might want your 1989 daily calendar to list events from your
birth decade. Then 1990 could be the Gay Nineties. For 1991 you could choose
from among Aviation & Space Exploration, Literature, Sports, etc. Because of
size considerations, these specialized subsets contain entries not included in
the monthly uploads of the general database.
