~1,FILES
To read a file, select FILE OPEN from the menus with the arrow and Enter
keys. TAB to the list of files, highlight the one you want and press F10.
For a blank worksheet, select FILE NEW.
~6,ALTERNATIVES
The standard product goes up to 150 alternatives; this demonstration
version permits two additions after NEW or one after OPEN.
To add, select ALTERNATIVE ADD, type the name and press F10. Move the
vertical highlight and press Enter.
Notes can be added, read and edited by pulling down the menu, selecting
NOTE and highlighting the title row or column. Or simply highlight the
item and press F6. The prompt in line one will show (n) where a note
exists.
~9,CRITERION
Up to 60 Criterion can be in the full software; this demo version allows
adding, copying or editing 4 after NEW or 1 after OPEN.
To add, select CRITERION ADD, type the title and press F10. You will get
a box to select the data type. Highlight the one you want and press F10.
Move the horizontal highlight into position and press Enter.
GRAPHIC SETTING shows a bar chart of values. Pick the alternative with
up/down and set its value with left/right keys.
You can see how predefined types were created using EDIT TYPE DEFINITION.
Notes are added just as with Alternatives.
~10,EDIT CRITERION TYPE
Use the TAB and Shift-TAB to move around in the setting box.
For Word types, specify a score from 0 to 10 for each word. These can be
entered in any order.
For numeric values, the ends of the range are needed. They can be either
a specific numeric value, a Minimum or a Maximum value. The latter
"float" with the data.
Dates are from the years 1980 to 2079 with only the last 2 digits shown.
So if you see 1-1-00 it means January 1, 2000. Date formatting with mm
outputs two digits for the month; formats with mmm output a three letter
name like Jan. You must enter date data in the format selected.
~12,WEIGHTS
Weighting sets the relative importance of the criteria.
Use SETUP WEIGHTS to pick a method. For subtotals, select the Groups type
and use WEIGHTS ADD to create groups, which subtotal the criteria
immediately above.
For word weights, you set the individual values and the ratio between the
Very High and Very Low weights.
GRAPHIC SETTING is the adjustable bar chart screen.
~15,POSITIONS
Tracks people's views on a decision with a third dimension. (Up to 60 in
standard product).
When enabling Positions, you will be asked to establish the summarizing
rules. G and I refer to:
** General means that a value entered in one position will be copied
into all the rest.
** Individual says each position has its own value.
For all Weights, all Uncertainties and all Must Haves, plus each
Criterion: highlight the item and type G or I to set it.
~17,REPORT
ACTION LIST is a global note for documentation or collecting ideas.
BRAINSTORM is fun.
Print routines are not available in this demo disk. Samples of all the
reports were on the enclosed printed sheet. The following, plus weight
and value bar graphs, can be sent to the printer, a file or the screen:
GRAPH SCORES: Alternatives with their scores in a bar chart.
BOTTOM LINE: Ranked alternatives with numeric scores.
PRINT MODEL: Prints the worksheet.
CRITERIA & NOTES: Scoring rules and all notes.
INDIVIDUAL REPORT: Ratings and notes for one Alternative.
EXPERIMENTS: Logs "what-if" testing and results.
WEIGHTING EFFECTS: Changes weights around nominal and shows results.
SCATTERPLOT: Positions alternatives against any two criteria.
FORMS: Questionnaires for data collection.
MARGINS & CODES: Setup.
~22,DISPLAY
GRAPH/NUMERIC SCORES: Switches the score and rank window between
the numeric and bar graph display. The bar graph shows best and
worst case when there are questions in the worksheet.
DOWN/ACROSS SELECTION: Picks the two axis displayed for positions.
MUST HAVES ON/OFF: Adds a column for minimum values. Type
in a values where wanted, type ? to clear it.
PROFILE/TEXT DATA: When on, the data items are replaced by small bars
whose length represents the scored value.
VALUE UNCERTAINTY: Adds a column for % ambiguity for a criterion.
+/- ON/OFF: Marks the data having the biggest impact on the scores.
ALIAS ON/OFF: Shows the alias for alternatives.
SORT: Will sort alternatives, criteria or positions.
~25,QUIT
Highlight and press Enter to exit to DOS.
~26,KEYBOARD and MAIN SCREEN
The top line has a prompt message for the item highlighted. The prompt
line shows an (n) if a note is attached to the item. (g) or (i) shows
whether values are the same for all Positions (general) or unique to each
Position (individual). (p) shows a locked protected value.
The arrow keys, home, end and page up/down move the highlight around the
screen. When more information is available off screen (indicated by the
arrowheads in the border) it will be scrolled into view as you try to move
the highlight that direction. Control-left/right arrow acts as a "Page-
left/right".
Esc cancels the current operation without saving changes.
Enter is the acceptance key for single "questions", such as going ahead
with a highlighted item in a pulldown or row for inserting something.
The F10 key is the acceptance key for all popup boxes.
Text entry operates in "insert" mode. Backspace deletes the character
before the highlight. Delete removes the highlighted character.
Enter data by highlighting the cell and typing a new value. With word or
date items, you need only type enough to uniquely identify the value. End
with the Enter key, or spreadsheet style by using an Arrow key.
The TAB key in settings boxes moves the highlight between elements, say
from an editing box to a pushbutton. TAB and shift-TAB (backwards
tabbing) are also used with Positions to move between screens.
Within a settings box, the Space Bar can be used to "push buttons". Arrow
keys or Space Bar change "Pick One" buttons.
Standard Decision Pad can use a mouse, but not this demo disk.
/-letter-letter or Alt-letter-letter will also select menu items.
