  6. The Public Domain Software Library Online BBS listing is published
  7. every month and is made available, FREE, on many bbs's throughout
  8. the United States. The content of the bbs listing is believed to be
  9. accurate but there are no guarantees whatsover that the bbs systems
  10. listed here are functional or in fact are what the listing describes
  11. them as. Please feel free to call our bbs at 516-938-6722 and leave
  12. a message to the SYSOP regarding any changes, additions or deletions
  13. to the bbs listing as you see fit.

  28.     help us ??.  If you could at least help to verify BBS numbers
  29.     in your area code YOU could help make this the BEST bbs list ever.

  32.   This issue special info :
  33.   
  34.       The April 1989 listing contains over 2,900 BBS's and is
  35.       believed to be as accurate as possible. However, BBS systems
  36.       are known to come and go VERY quickly so you may find a small
  37.       percentage of the listed systems as down or changed. IF you
  38.       encounter a BBS that you wish to report as down, PLEASE only 
  39.       refer to the FULL PHONE NUMBER of the system.
  40.  
  41.       We are working very hard right now to eliminate unwanted bbs
  42.       numbers such as Commodore, Atari, Apple and the like. Since
  43.       we doubt users of those types of computers ever see "TheList"
  44.       there is no point in listing them, it only makes for a larger
  45.       bbs listing that is of no use to the PC/MS-DOS community. We
  46.       will however be retaining bbs numbers of CP/M systems and
  47.       unique or commercial bbs numbers.
  48.  
  49.       We hope to have eliminated most of the unwanted numbers by
  50.       the May 1989 issue.
  51.  
  52.       Since many sysops and users have asked us to, we have added two
  53.       additional items to our "Type Codes" legend. Where possible we
  54.       have determined if a bbs has either a US Robotics 9600 baud or
  55.       an Hayes V Series 9600 baud modem. For those bbs systems that we
  56.       could figure out we have changed the "9" to either a "U" for USR
  57.       or a "V" for Hayes V series. We think we have changed just over
  58.       650 bbs systems in our listing with this modification. If your
  59.       bbs is currently tagged with the "9" and you have either the USR
  60.       or Hayes V modems, please dial our bbs and leave a message for 
  61.       the sysop to change "TheList" to reflect this.

  63.    SPECIAL NOTICE !!!!! -
  64.  
  65.          "TheList" is now available in Procomm Plus, Telix and Qmodem
  66.          libraries of telephone directories that can be immediatly
  67.          used in either for dialing. We have taken the time to convert
  68.          the complete bbs listing so that you may easily dial up
  69.          ANY of the listed bbs's without having to type in each
  70.          individual number. The converted bbs listing is broken
  71.          up into about 13 phone directories and is contained
  72.          in a ZIP file that is now being distributed as PROC0489.ZIP
  73.          (Procomm plus), TELX0489.ZIP (Telix) or QMOD0489.ZIP (Qmodem).
  74.          These dialing directories are available on a few select bbs
  75.          systems around the country and on our bbs at 516-938-6722.
  76.          Either of the dialing directories are created with a few items
  77.          preset that you should be aware of:
  78.  
  79.             1) ALL numbers are treated as long distance and have
  80.                a prefix of "1" attached to them for local carrier
  81.                notification of long distance dialing.
  82.  
  83.             2) ALL numbers are set at 2400 baud, 8 data, 1 stop and
  84.                NO parity.
  85.  
  86.             3) Terminal type is set at ANSI BBS.
  87.  
  88.           By using phone directory covertors such as CVTFON you can
  89.           further modify parameters in our dialing directories in
  90.           a GLOBAL modify or replace mode. We have set up the dialing
  91.           directories with the above presets since we have found that
  92.           these are what the majority of users would have them at anyway.
