INTRODUCTION
MAPDIGIT was written in the Spring of 1989 to digitize maps,
cross-sections, and other graphical material for importation into
the DRAFIX CAD program using an ASCII text (graphics) language for
output. In the Fall of 1989, the programs were expanded to output
HPGL (Hewlett Packard) and DMPL (Houston Instruments) graphics
languages, as well as the original ASCII. Mapdigit v. 1.1 is
distributed on a shareware basis. Mapdigit v. 2.0, which
incorporates a graphical screen display and the ability to
interrupt and resume work in progress. This latter program is
available from Bulldog Software, as are custom program
modifications and source code. The programs are written entirely
in compiled basic (MS Quickbasic 4.5).
HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS
MAPDIGIT runs on any IBM PC or compatible with 512K or more
memory under DOS 2.0 or higher. It requires a Summagraphics MM
Series or compatible digitizing board set on the default binary
mode and connected to either COM1 or COM2.
RUNNING MAPDIGIT
Mapdigit is very simple to use. It is designed so that by
following the menu's, no further instruction is necessary. It is
suggested that you rename the output file from the default
Mapdigit.Asc as the program will write over the old file when it
is rerun.
Boot your machine, start MAPDIGIT, and try it out for a while
before doing any serious work. You can send HPGL and DMPL files
to your plotter with the DOS print program. You may want to make
a plot of all the symbols MAPDIGIT incorporates (44 in all) for
reference. Remember, you can digitize any line drawing, including
maps, cross-sections, graphs, logos, etc., or you can freehand
sketch.
