- Christmas Letter 1988 The Eleventh Hour
-
- If the twelve months of the year are likened to the numbers on the
- face of a clock, with January at the beginning, November would be
- the eleventh hour. It is a time for reflection on the hours that
- have passed and for considering how wisely we have invested our
- most precious commodity.
-
- To give myself a place to start this sharing of our lives with you, I
- re-read last year's Christmas Letter and other markers along the
- trail. The words that stand out to me in my description of looking
- ahead to 1988 are "heightened intensity," and "ominous and exciting."
-
- Having just returned from Israel, I was thinking of world events. On
- the surface and depending upon your perspective, it seems that not
- much has changed. The world goes on. But from the invisible, eternal
- realm we keep hearing "the days ahead."
-
- My appointment book, its pages filled with scribblings and worn from
- use, tells a tale of meetings with Australian businessmen and
- entrepreneurs of every flavor - of being, as one deeply involved in
- high-tech said of himself, "educated beyond my intelligence." The
- "heightened intensity" in our personal lives is evident.
