If you are experiencing VERY long times with Windows 286 running
under LANtastic and using LANtastic's print spooler, try setting
the CPS option in Net_Mgr, where your printer is defined, to 999
with LANtastic Version 2.49 or up to 32767. This will cause the
Server to send data to the printer at that speed even if other
Server tasks may be requested. You may experience some beeping if
the traffic is heavy on your server with the CPS setting higher,
but the added speed will be worth it! If you typically use Windows
part of the time and switch to other non-windows applications, you
may wish to define your printer 2 times: once with CPS=0 and a
second time with CPS=999 (or higher if you are using NOS 2.53).
In the batch file that loads Windows you can then net unuse the
printer defined at 0 CPS and net use the one at 999 CPS. When you
leave Windows you can do the reverse. The reason you may want to
do this is that with most applications the CPS set to 0 works very
well and the server isn't forced to spend extra time sending the
jobs at a certain CPS (see 'Specifying Characters Per Second in the
LANtastic Users Manual p.6-1.
