There are a number of new features that have been added to
Director since the documentation was written.
The first is now you can change Director's colors. After
configuring Directors other options, the screen will display the
available colors on your monitor and the number that represents
that color. Below are portions of the Director display shown in
their current color. You merely have to enter the new color and
press Enter and that part of the display will change to that
color. When you are finished changing colors, press F10. You
will then be asked if you want to save the changes. Pressing "Y'
or Enter will save them. Pressing "N" won't save the colors and
will bring you back to the menu.
If you just want to change the colors and not do any modification
to DL or DB, the menu option "Change colors" has been added to
the DCONFIG menu. Choosing this option will just bring up the
color changing portion of the configuration program.
The same change colors options have also been added to the end of
the DM configuration program so that you can also modify DM to
have the colors you choose.
In previous versions of Director, hitting the first letter of a
file or directory would bring you to the first file or directory
with that letter. This feature has been expanded so that you can
now type in a file or directory name and Director will find it.
The first time that you hit any character that could be part of a
legal DOS filename, a dialog box will pop up in the upper right
showing that letter and the first file or directory with that
letter will be highlighted. Each additional letter that you type
in will highlight the file or directory that matches what you
type. If you type a name that Director can't find, the dialog
box will close and the last highlighted file will remain
highlighted. Similarly pressing any key that isn't part of a
valid DOS filename such as the Space Bar or the Enter key or even
clicking the mouse, will close the dialog box. If you make a
mistake in your typing, you can also press the Backspace key and
make corrections.
You can make DL behave the old way by pressing the TAB key after
typeing a letter. Each time you press the TAB key DL will look for
an exact match for the letters that you typed. For example, if you
have more than one UTIL directory, you can type "UTIL" and then
press the TAB key and DL will go down the tree highlighting each
UTIL directory in turn.
Director now gives you the opportunity to perform operations on all
the marked files or only the highlighted file. The default is
the marked files. If you want the copy, move delete or change
attributes command to operate on just the highlighted file, press
the shift key when choosing copy, move or change attributes. For
example to just copy the highlighted file, I would press the shift
key and either click on F1 COPY, press F1 of ^C.
