  47.                                  Installation
  48.  
  49. To use PC-KEY-DRAW from a hard disk, put the program disk in A: and run
  50. INSTALL.  The shareware disk set includes 4 360K floppies, while the registered
  51. version includes 7 360K floppies.
  52.  
  53. Non-registered version may include:
  54.  *PC-KEY-DRAW program disk Version 3.75 or greater.
  55.  *Library Disk #1 (L-1) with sample slide show and sample drawings.
  56.   Complete manual on disk (M).
  57.  *Interactive tutorial (T-1) helps you learn the basics of PC-KEY-DRAW
  58.  
  59. Registered version includes above plus:
  60.  *Library Disk #2 (L-2) with text fonts, fill patterns, & LaserJet support
  61.  *Library Disk #3 (L-3) with additional text fonts.
  62.  *Library Disk #4 (L-4) with clipart.

  64. A CGA emulator disk is available for use with Hercules graphics cards.

  66. Only the disks with "*" will be installed on your hard disk to save space.

  68. You should not run PC-KEY-DRAW from the original disks.  Make backup copies of
  69. the PC-KEY-DRAW originals and store them in a safe place.  Use the backup
  70. copies or your hard disk to run the program.

  72.                        Fitting PC-KEY-DRAW to your needs
  73.  
  74. You may want to add several commands to your AUTOEXEC.BAT file.  Such as
  75. GRAPHICS to load graphics printer driver for IBM & Epson printers
  76. GRAFTABL to provide extended ASCII characters
  77. MOUSE to run Microsoft compatible mouse
  78. CAMERA is file to load screen capture program.  Grab screens with
  79.        Ctrl-Alt-Right Shft.  Load screens with F8 o or O.  CAMERA will save
  80.        screens in the default subdirectory as A.SCN, B.SCN, C.SCN and so on.

  82.         Distributing Slide Shows, HyperDraw and HyperShell Applications
  83.  
  84. PC-KEY-DRAW slide shows can be distributed freely provided PC-KEY-DRAW is in a
  85. runtime mode and no charge is made other than a small disk copying fee.  Before
  86. 3.70, the runtime mode would not work with HyperDraw or HyperShell.  KD_DRAW
  87. can be put in a runtime mode by removing KD_DRAW.HLP.  To use with any HD or HS
  88. stack, simply add <P> <User specified prompt message> <Alt-q> as part of the
  89. initial macro used to call the first screen. This allows PC-KEY-DRAW to be used
  90. to develop application software.  Games, databases, tutorials, information
  91. systems, DOS shell programs and much more are possible.

  93. Anyone wishing to distribute PC-KEY-DRAW with a HyperDraw or HyperShell stack
  94. must register the program with OEDWARE. In addition, the following processing
  95. charges may apply:

  105.                        Common Problems in Getting Started
  106.                        or What Has My Hardware Done Now?

  108.                                  NEC MULTISPEED
  109.  
  110. PC-KEY-DRAW can be used on the NEC Multispeed, but only after proper setup of
  111. the Multispeed.  Three programs must be run first to put the Multispeed in a
  112. mode sufficiently compatible. Run the following:
  113.  
  114.     KILL640R
  115.     KILLPOP
  116.     INIT059
  117.

  120. for finding a solution to let PC-KEY-DRAW run on the NEC Multispeed.

  122.                           Random Cursor/Menu Movement
  123.  
  124. Later model TANDY 1000s have a bug in their BIOS and/or hardware that causes
  125. problems with PC-KEY-DRAW the bug is in the joystick interface and causes
  126. random information to be sent to PC-KEY-DRAW.  The program has been updated
  127. to be less sensitive to the random noise from the joystick, but as a result
  128. PC-KEY-DRAW may not be able to use a joystick on later model Tandy 1000
  129. computers.  It is possible that some other clone game ports may have similar
  130. problems.

  132. If you notice problems with random cursor movement or menu item input, run
  133. KD_UTIL CHD/ to disable the joystick or set <j> <5000> in Cursor Mode.
  134.  
  135.                       TANDY LT1400, LT1000 & SOME KAYPROS
  136.  
  137. A BIOS bug in the above models causes problems with loading screens under F8
  138. or through HyperDraw.  The bug causes only the first few lines of the file to
  139. be loaded. <F8 Alt-o> can be used to load these screens.  The problem seems
  140. appears in older LT1000s and LT1400s at the high speed, but not in low speed
  141. operation.  Switch your laptop to low speed operation and it should be ok.
  142. This appears to have been fixed in later models and PC-KEY-DRAW will load
  143. screens at either speed.
  144.  
  145. Dual speed KAYPRO machines should work ok at the slower speed as well.
  146.  
  147.                                     PRINTING
  148.  
  149. To print on most dot matrix printers RUN GRAPHICS.COM from DOS or via a BATch
  150. file before loading PC-KEY-DRAW.  The best method is to add the command to
  151. your AUTOEXEC.BAT file and make sure it is available in the PATH.  GRAPHICS is
  152. supplied with all versions of DOS. There are also public domain and commercial
  153. programs that replace GRAPHICS.COM, but with enhanced capabilities.

  155.                                     DOS 3.0
  156.  
  157. DOS 3.0 has a bug that prevents PC-KEY-DRAW from operating from a subdirectory
  158. on a hard disk.  The bug does not exist in any other version of DOS and I have
  159. personally tested PC-KEY-DRAW on 2.0, 2.1, 3.1, 3.2, 3.3, 4.0, and in the DOS
  160. compatibility box of OS/2.  PC-KEY-DRAW will operate from a floppy in DOS 3.0.
  161.  
  162.                                     HERCULES
  163.  
  164. PC-KEY-DRAW requires a CGA emulator to run on a Hercules graphics card.  There
  165. are several available in the public domain and as shareware.  We can supply
  166. suitable emulators, see below.  HGCIBM is the prefered emulator to use.  Clone
  167. Hercules cards may not work as well as true Hercules.
