Released April 12, 1989
Welcome to Grades v2.51! This document is meant to
introduce previous user's of Grades to this new version. Please
note that there have been MAJOR changes to the program. It is
suggested that, once you have the time, you read the full
manual.
This document will be kept short and will only inform you
of the changes that have been made. To get more information on
any item, press <F1> while in that area. (Or read the full
Manual)
Converting from v2.00 to v2.51:
STOP!!!! Before you do anything you MUST convert your old
CLASS2 file.
Please follow the following steps very closely!!
1) Make a backup copy of CLASS2. (This should go without
saying.)
2) Make sure that you are in the SAME directory that CLASS2 is
in, otherwise you will receive an error message.
3) Type <CONVERTG>. (Leave out the <> )
4) The program will respond with "Done..." or an error message.
5) If you received an error message, fix the error and go to
Step 8.
6) Enter <GRADES25> and verify that the Conversion was correct.
7) If not, then go to Step 8, else you are done.
8) Type in <DEL CLASS25>. Next restore your backup copy of
CLASS2.
9) Goto Step 3.

Main Menu:
The Main Menu has changed slightly. In addition to pressing
the key of the selection you want, you may also move a
Highlight bar up and down. Then press <Enter> once you are at
the selection you wish to execute.
There is a small Help line at the bottom of the screen. In
addition you may now press <F1> ANYTIME during the program's
operation for context-sensitive help screens.
When at the Main Menu you may also press <Alt-F1> to bring
up a Help Topic Index.
Cursor movements are as you would expect. The only exception
are the Cursor Right/Left keys. These have no effect.
Pressing <Esc> will select the Quit option.
Change Menu:
This is the area in which most changes [sic] have been
made.
The menu that you are used to, no longer exists. Instead
the program will display a listing, as in the View Regular
function. At the bottom of the screen you will see a menu that
is displayed "Lotus-Style". You may press the highlighted key,
or move the highlight bar, to select the field you wish to
change.
Press <Page Down> to display the next eleven classes. When
you reach the end of the list, the program will Beep.
When you choose the Teacher Name option, you will be shown
the Extended Listing. Then you are prompted for the Class
Number. You may do one of the following:
1) Enter in the Class Number.
2) Press <Esc> to Abort.
3) Press <Enter> to view the next eleven classes. (If
there are any. Once you reach the end, the program will Beep)
When you return from this option, the display is re-set to
the Regular Display, starting at the first class.
VERY IMPORTANT!!: You MUST be viewing the class you wish to
change. The program will now "jump" up to the display and
display the entry field in Yellow text with a Black background
on color monitors . This will remain, to remind you of the
change.
If you are NOT viewing the class, the program will inform
you of the error.

Data Entry:
The Data Entry keys are now FULLY Wordstar (tm) compatible.
If you are not familiar with these, you do not need to worry.
All the keys you have been using retain their functionality.
The "new" keys only add some small enhancements.
In the Grade entry, you will notice that your entry is
FORCED to uppercase. This will avoid problems some user's had
with the G.P.A. calculations.
Also, in the search's, the program will automatically force
all entries to uppercase. Therefore, it is not dependent on the
case of your entry. This may cause some problems with people
who have had two classes with the same basic information,
except for the Section Name. If you separated the classes by
using uppercase and lowercase, this will no longer work!!
Opening Screen:
The opening screen now displays a running Time and Date
display, as well as the new Help Line.
Besides the above, only internals have been changed. You will
notice that there no longer exists any "snow" on CGA adapters.
Also, speed has been greatly enhanced.
One final note. You may now also use Grades with a Monochrome,
EGA, or VGA adapter.
