This diskette contains three utilities which modify and extend the
screen handling capabilities of DOS 1.1 and DOS 2.0. They are
distributed as USER SUPPORTED SOFTWARE (see documentation). Briefly,
this means that you are permitted to try the programs on your own
machine and are asked to pay for them only if you find them useful.
Whether or not you decide to pay, you are encouraged to pass on this
suite of programs to other users. Payment provides a limited license
to use these programs on one IBM PC or PC-XT system.
The three utilities are:
The PC-BW utility, which is applicable if you are using a
colour adaptor (or equivalent) with a black and white display. The
program comverts all BIOS calls which try to set colour modes to
calls to set the equivalent black and white mode. This will make the
output of many programs easier to distinguish.
The PC-TTY utility, which replaces the BIOS TTY emulation
mode and performs two functions:
1. It corrects a problem with the BIOS handling of 80 character lines,
which causes an additional blank line to be inserted in the input
stream, and prevents the line editting functions from operating
correctly across more than one line.
2. It provides an alternate line display mode in which characters
not permitted to wrap around onto a second screen line.
The PC-Page utility, which prevents program output from
scrolling up and off the screen before you have a chance to read it.
This utility splits output into `pages' of a length you define.
Output is paused after the specified number of lines, and the system
waits for you to input a character before continuing. This program
is unique to DOS 1.1, and has several advantages over the MORE command
of DOS 2.0:
- It operates with all programs which output to the screen,
whether or not they write to the standard output device.
- You can choose the page size which suits your needs.
- Once installed and set up, you do not need to add anything to
your normal commands - the system is always active and stays active
until you turn off paging or change the page size.
The three subsystems are documented in the `.DOC' files.
To print these files, enter:
A>copy pc-bw.doc lpt1:
A>copy pc-tty.doc lpt1:
and
A>copy pc-page.doc lpt1:
For a demonstration of PC-Page, instal the system (see the
documentation) and re-TYPE this file.
For your convenience, the file `INVOICE' contains an invoice
for this package. It can be used to accompany your payment and
kept as a record for your files for tax purposes.
