DOS ASSISTANT - QUICK USE INSTRUCTIONS
To load the DOS Assistant program into your computer's memory, place
your help program diskette in drive A: and enter:
A>ASSIST
Now press the "Return" key and a copyright notice will be displayed
on the screen. Pressing the "Alt" and "H" keys at the same time will
display the help window. Press the "H" key to display a list of the
help program's commands. Pressing "H" will scroll the help line
forward and pressing "Back Space" will scroll it backwards.
Use the "PgUp", "PgDn", "Home" and "End" keys to page through the
help index. The cursor keys may be used to move the highlighted bar
over the description of a DOS command which you would like more
information about.
Pressing the "Return" key will display detailed information about the
highlighted DOS command. The paging keys may be used to page through
the detailed help. Pressing the "Space" bar will return you to the
help index.
Pressing "-" will move the window to the bottom of the screen and "+"
will move it back up. To view the current time and date press "T".
Pressing "T" a second time will remove the time and date.
To remove the window and return to DOS press the "Esc" key. To leave
the current help window on the display while you return to DOS, press
the "Ctrl" and "S" keys at the same time. You may then enter a DOS
command while viewing the selected help information. When you press
the "Return" key to execute the DOS command, the help window will
disappear until the next time you press the "ALT" and "H"
keys at the same time.
PROGRAM OPTIONS
DOS Assistant has several options which may be set by the user. The
options may be set as follows.
A>ASSIST /F /Kxxxx /M /T /?
/F Use fast screen display method. (may cause snow)
/Kxxxx Set "help key" to key "xxxx". This allows you to select the
keystroke which will activate the help window.
/M Remove the program color.
/T Allow the program to run without becoming resident.
/? Display a list of these options.
You can use the configuration program HELPCONF.COM to set any these
options permanently to the program diskette.
