TELIX is a great communications package. Hats off to Colin Sampaleanu and
company at EXIS, Inc. for the really wonderful job they've done...and are
doing. Throughout T-FIG and its documentation you'll find several references
to TELIX and EXIS, Inc. TELIX is a copyrighted (c) program.
While TELIX is a great communications program, like anything new, it may be
hard for the new user to properly set up. Although it comes with most of the
configuration settings the way you need them to be, changing these can
sometimes be confusing.
I've spent some time reading the TELIX users echo available on some OPUS/FIDO
and PCBOARD bulletin boards and noticed that most new users have the same
problems. The same questions get repeated over and over again. The typical
response from more seasoned users is to, "Read the full manual." That's well
and good, but if you're new to telecommunications, the jargon may seem like
gibberish to you. This leaves you in the lousy position of having read the
darn thing but, still not understanding what to do. T-FIG solves that
problem.
Also, I can't even begin to count the times that I needed a tidbit of info
from the manual, exited TELIX, loaded the thing into an editor, List, Browse,
etc., found what I needed, changed back to the TELIX directory, and finally,
reran TELIX. Now, for some this isn't a problem...but, it is for me. T-FIG
gets around that by providing a quick reference to the TELIX documentation.
Just take a look at the TIPS section. Now, in addition, there is an on-line
manual available!
T-FIG is designed with the beginner in mind. It allows the new user of TELIX
to have easy access to the configuration information needed to make TELIX more
easily used. It's not necessary to remember any commands to use T-FIG...it's
completely automatic.
In many cases the information you need for the most widely used applications
is explained in T-FIG. Section 5: TIPS and HINTS contains stuff that causes
most new users problems. If you have a particular problem, it's most likely
here.
T-FIG has been redsigned to work from a floppy diskette in drive A. Please
read T-FIG.DOC to see how this works.
If you find any problem using T-FIG or have any suggestions, please let me
know. You can do that through U.S. mail to:

PHEW!:
By now you're probably wondering, "What does all this legal jargon have to do
with me? It only has to do with you if you like the program and intend to use
it. What follows is not a bid for your pity, but simply the way things
are....
I have Multiple Sclerosis and am mostly found in my home because of the
physical limitations it places on me. The only income I produce is by writing
and selling software like T-FIG.
All of that having been said, there's only one thing more. I will appreciate
you registering as a T-FIG user. It will only cost you $20.00. For that
you'll get a really helpful program with a good ON-LINE reference manual and
I'll be take Cindy out for lunch!
The set of files you have are all there is. T-FIG, as you have it, is the
fully functional version with the index and the on-line manual. It's not some
half-hearted version where you have to register to really make it worthy.
I've decided to just lay it out there and rely on your sense of fair play.
Thanks,
Gene
P.S. I've been criticized for making the above appeal. It seems the one who
criticized thought that you would register just because I have MS. I
don't think so. I don't feel any less professional because of this.
When you register, I'd appreciate any comments concerning this you may
have.
