  1. TELIX is a great communications package.  Hats off to Colin Sampaleanu
  2. and company at EXIS, Inc. for the really wonderful job they've
  3. done...and are doing.  Throughout T-FIG and its documentation you'll
  4. find multiple references to TELIX and EXIS, Inc.  TELIX is a
  5. copyrighted (c) program.
  6.  
  7. While TELIX is truly a great communications program, like anything
  8. new, it may be hard for the new user to properly set up.  Although it
  9. comes with most of the configuration settings the way you need them to
  10. be, changing these can sometimes be confusing.
  11.  
  12. I've spent some time reading the TELIX users echo available on some
  13. OPUS/FIDO bulletin boards and noticed that most new users have the
  14. same problems.  Unfalteringly, the same questions get repeated over and
  15. over again.  The typical response from more seasoned users is to, "Read
  16. the full manual."  That's well and good, but if you're new to
  17. telecommunications, the jargon may seem like gibberish to you.  This
  18. leaves you in the lousy position of having read the darn thing but,
  19. still not understanding what to do.  T-FIG solves that problem.

  21. Also, I can't even begin to count the times that I needed a tidbit of
  22. info from the manual, exited TELIX, loaded the thing into an editor,
  23. List, Browse, etc., found what I needed, change back to the TELIX
  24. directory, and finally, reran TELIX.  Now, for those with lots of
  25. memory, this problem doesn't exist...but, it did for me.  T-FIG gets
  26. around that by providing a quick reference to the TELIX documentation.
  27. Just take a look at the TIPS section.

  29. T-FIG is designed with the beginner in mind.  It allows the new user
  30. of TELIX to have easy access to the configuration information needed
  31. to make TELIX more easily used.  It's not necessary to remember any
  32. commands to use T-FIG...it's completely automatic.

  34. In many cases the information you need for the most widely used
  35. applications is explained in T-FIG.  Section 5: TIPS and HINTS
  36. contains stuff that causes most new users problems.  If you have a
  37. particular problem, it's most likely here.  If not, read the RTFM
  38. (Read The Full Manual)!

  52.     TFTA.SCN        ASCII TIPS.
  53.     TFTC.SCN        Configuration TIPS.
  54.     TFTD.SCN        Dialing TIPS.
  55.     TFTF.SCN        Filename TIPS.
  56.     TFTG.SCN        General TIPS.
  57.     TFTM.SCN        Modem TIPS.
  58.     TFTP.SCN        Protocol TIPS.
  59.     TFTS.SCN        Screen TIPS.
  60.     TFTW.SCN        Write TIPS.
