  22.                    NARC version 1.3 enhancements

  25. Speed improvements.
  26.  
  27.     This version of NARC has a greatly streamlined uncruncher. The
  28.     result is an additional 22% decrease in extraction times. Version
  29.     1.3 uses a very large stack, which avoids a time consuming link
  30.     and relink operation on the string table when decoding each string.

  38. Handling of sub directories with no ARC files.
  39.  
  40.     There were many complaints about how NARC handled this situation.
  41.     Previously, NARC simply would not let you select a sub directory that
  42.     contained no ARC files (there is no reason to go there anyway), but
  43.     this caused a lot of confusion and in response the handling of this
  44.     situation has been revised. NARC will now show the NO-ARC-FILES window
  45.     and give several options.

  50.     HELP is now available from the NO-ARC-FILES window.

  60.     There was also a lot of confusion about the subdirectory window and
  61.     the commands available in that window. There is now a help window
  62.     that pops up along with the sub directory window showing all available
  63.     commands. There is a similar window that pops up along with the
  64.     ARC file window.

  69.     This rewrite is the direct result of an overwhelming amount of user
  70.     requests. (I took a beating on this one!)

  72.     The HOME,END,PG UP, PG DN and arrow keys all function in view now.
  73.     There is a WordStar (c) type filter toggle (the "F" key) and a HEX
  74.     dump mode toggle (the "M" key) that are available at all times.
  75.     NARC first extracts the file to the default drive into a file called
  76.     NARC.TMP and then proceeds to view the file. When viewing is finished,
  77.     the NARC.TMP file is deleted. If there is not enough room on the
  78.     default drive to create the NARC.TMP file, you are prompted for
  79.     another drive that can be used for the temporary file. The ESCape
  80.     key will end the view session.

  83. Trivia status screen.

  85.     This is a new screen that shows some semi-useful information about
  86.     the current NARC environment. The screen is invoked from the
  87.     main NARC screen via the ALT-F10 key sequence.

  90. Removed check disk space BEFORE extraction feature.
  91.  
  92.     This feature was removed after rethinking the process. This was done
  93.     since MOST extractions will proceed correctly and when this is
  94.         done on all extractions, speed is sacrificed. If a disk write is
  95.     unsuccessful, then the user is asked whether or not to continue
  96.     (if extracting tagged) or abort. If the user aborts, then any partial
  97.     file is deleted.

  100. Command line processor.
  101.  
  102.     A command line processor has been added that is compatible with
  103.     both ARC and PKXARC. There are some variations on the implementation
  104.     of these commands that are not wholly compatible with ARC and PK. For
  105.     example, the ONLY command that operates on wildcard subfiles is the
  106.     extract command. The "T" (test ARC integrity command) will simply open
  107.     the ARC file and display the main NARC screen. This is done, since NARC
  108.     does the integrity check when reading the ARC file. The "D" (delete
  109.     subfile) command will only delete one file at a time. This is done
  110.     since it is very seldom that files are deleted from an ARC anyway and
  111.     the wildcard can be very dangerous.

  119.     [command]      may be any of the following and may be preceeded by 
  120.                "-" or "/"

  125.         V,-V,L,-L,T,-T,Z,-Z    = open ARCmask file and display files
  126.         C,-C            = view submask file in ARCmask

  129.     [ARC file]      may be any ARC file with or without the extension. An
  130.                 extension of .ARC is assumed, but may be explicitly
  131.                 inlcuded as .ARC or .ARK. The drive/path may also be
  132.                 included.
