  12. Active Life 1.5 is a powerful system for planning, managing, and
  13. tracking one's active business and personal life. Flexible schedules
  14. manage work-flow effectively. All types of recurring items need be
  15. entered just once. Features pop-up calendars, week-at-a-glance, alarms,
  16. printed schedules, and more. There are versions of Active Life 1.5
  17. for DOS, Windows, and OS/2 Presentation Manager. The DOS and Windows
  18. editions also include a timer and an indexed text/graphics notebook

  23. Active Life is very popular. Since first appearing on CompuServe in
  24. October 1989, Active Life has consistently been downloaded more often
  25. than any other business application. CompuServe is the world's largest
  26. on-line service with more than 600,000 members.

  36.                         How to Install Active Life 1.5
  37.                         ------------------------------

  39. The installation process allows you to select which directory you would like
  40. to contain Active Life files. The directory you name will be created if it
  41. doesn't already exist, and the files will be copied from the diskette(s) to
  42. this target directory. Some files are in compressed form on the diskette(s)
  43. and will be automatically uncompressed as they are installed.

  45. Step 1:  Insert the (first, if two) Active Life diskette into drive A:
  46.  
  47. Step 2a: If installing for Windows, select Run from the File pull-down menu in
  48.          the Program Manager and type in A:ALWIN. ALWIN is a Windows program
  49.          that will install the files for Active Life 1.5, Windows edition.

  51. Step 2b: If installing for DOS, run ALDOS
  52.  
  53. Step 2c: If installing for OS/2 PM, run ALPM

  56. Step 3: For DOS users only!

  58.     If you are installing the DOS version of Active Life, you must
  59.         run the SETUP program which will prompt you for the type of
  60.     display and mouse, if any, you are using.  To do this, type:
  61.  
  62.         SETUP        and press ENTER.

  64.     Answer the questions and your system will be set up properly.

  74. Step 5: As soon as the program appears, choose HELP from the menu by
  75.         pressing Alt+H (hold down the Alt key and press H). Complete
  76.         Documentation will appear in the on-screen Help Guide.

  80. Configuring Active Life for DOS with Setup
  81.  
  82. You will be asked to select which type of display and mouse (if any) that
  83. you are using. Choose among the following display adapters:
  84.  
  85.     1. Monographics (Hercules compatible monochrome graphics)
  86.     2. CGA*        (most laptop's and PS/2 models 25, 30)
  87.     3. EGA
  88.     4. VGA        (PS/2 models 50+)
  89.  
  90. (* On a CGA, Active Life requires the high resolution mode (640x200). This
  91. mode supports only 2 colors (eg. black and white). To run Active Life in
  92. full color, you need a VGA or EGA display.)

  94. To change your settings, simply run SETUP again at any time.
  95.  
  96. Choosing the correct display and mouse (or no mouse) is critical. If
  97. Active Life is started with inaccurate settings it will not run. To make
  98. corrections, simply run SETUP again.

  100. When settings are correct and Active Life for DOS still does not run, it
  101. may be due to a conflict with a resident program (.exe) or driver (.sys).
  102. To pinpoint the problem, we suggest you temporarily modify your CONFIG.sys
  103. and AUTOEXEC.bat files so no resident programs and drivers are included.
  104. Re-boot your machine and try AL.bat. If AL runs OK with a clean system,
  105. add each TSR or driver back, one at a time, rebooting between changes.
  106. Call 1Soft technical support if you need any assistance.

  108. If you experience immediate difficulty, despite having followed the
  109. procedures described above, the most common reason is that your disks were
  110. damaged in shipment. Occasionally, Postal Service screening causes
  111. magnetic dislocation of program  material. Common symptoms are jumbled
  112. text in files or catastrophic errors when you try to run the programs.
  113. Other means besides Postal Service handling can occasionally introduce
  114. program corruption. These include BBS downloading, defective media, or
  115. file damage from hardware or software problems in relation to your hard
  116. disk. You can't assume you have an exact copy of Active Life 1.5. If your
  117. copy has been damaged, it will not work properly, and must be replaced.
