  27. were looking over your shoulder giving you advice and spotting errors. 
  28. Keywords are highlighted in different colors and 
  29. syntax err|cf9.u|cf1.rs, where detected, are shown in |cf9.red|cf1..   
  30.  
  31. The text is highlighted in different colors to show the End User 
  32. that the text is being checked. The expert looking over your shoulder 
  33. knows more rules of syntax than you do, but doesn't presume to know 
  34. everything. Hence the expert doesn't try to stop you typing anything 
  35. that is doubtful.

  37. The expert also writes little notes that are glued on the bottom   
  38. of the screen. These notes summarize the rules found in the manuals. 
  39. These notes are continually updated as fast as you can type, and when 
  40. you pause for a moment, the most recently written hints can be read 
  41. at your leisure - strange but charming!

  43. |CF4.QEDPAS|CF1. performs its syntax checks on a line by line
  44. basis as you edit that line. This is adequate so long as you don't 
  45. overuse PAScal's tolerance of statements that extend over 
  46. several lines.
