  18. Introduction:  After reading the earlier renditions of schematics
  19.                for the Pearl Box, I decided that there was an
  20.                easier and cheaper way of doing the same thing
  21.                with an IC and parts you probably have just laying
  22.                around the house.
  23.
  24.
  25. What Is A Pearl Box and Why Do I Want One?
  26.
  27.      A Pearl Box is a tone generating device that is used to make
  28.      a wide range of single tones.  Therefore, it would be very
  29.      easy to modify this basic design to make a Blue Box by
  30.      making 2 Pearl Boxes and joining them together in some
  31.      fashion.
  32.
  33.      A Pearl Box can be used to create any tone you wish that
  34.      other boxes may not.  It also has a tone sweep option that
  35.      can be used for numerous things like detecting different
  36.      types of phone tapping devices.
  37.
  38.

  90. Explanation:
  91.
  92.      The 2 wires that lead from the main part of the circuit
  93.      should be connected to the center poles on the toggle
  94.      switch.  Put the 2 wires to the pot on one side and the 2
  95.      wires going to the push-buttons to the other side.  That way
  96.      you can switch between tone sweep and the favorite tones you
  97.      like (the push-button side).
  98.
  99.      To keep tones that you want to use frequently like 1850 Hz
  100.      then all you have to do is put in a variable resistor and
  101.      adjust it to where you have the correct tone, then just put
  102.      a push-button switch on the line.  You can link them
  103.      together in a chain, etc.  There are many other good
  104.      modifications to make to the box so have fun and be smart.
