  77.        The soviets use a yellow powder
  78.   to track U.S. Embassy Personnel and 
  79.   others.  According to government 
  80.   analysis, it's formula is:

  86.   reluctant to explain how the powder
  87.   is used - The Russians deny it even
  88.   exsists - It probably works like 
  89.   this.  Nitrophenylpentadienal, or
  90.   NPPD is smeared on a door knob or 
  91.   steering wheel or something that a 
  92.   certain person is sure to touch.
  93.   It is thought that a cockroach powder
  94.   used by Russian exterminators at the
  95.   U.S. Embassy in Moscow might contain 
  96.   the substance.  The person then 
  97.   leaves traces of NPPD on everything 
  98.   and everyone he touches.  The
  99.   Russians must be able to detect NPPD
  100.   in extremely small traces.  NPPD  
  101.   glows under ultraviolet light. NPPD
  102.   is believed to be extremely tenacious
  103.   once it gets on the skin.  It 
  104.   apperently does not come off with 
  105.   normal washing for a long time.
  106.   American residents in Moscow were 
  107.   advised to wash with soap and water
  108.   and then with an alcohol-based 
  109.   compound.  No one is quite sure how
  110.   well the powder works.
