  9. throat as I draw from the screenless pipe.

  11. Crystal dragons of smoke accelerate before my eyes, melting in the air.

  14. command center.

  28.      Words splatter upon my brain, seeking rest on the display before me.

  31. becomes a query about the way society had, recently, become nothing but a
  32. set of subliminal images and instinctual knowledge about prices and which
  33. kind of toothpaste is best and so on.

  35.      The light coming from the screen hits me as a grid of letters and
  36. symbols twisting and merging into symbolic patterns.  I hear the whole
  37. fucking Cogswell's Cogsfactory in operation, cogs turning and clocks
  38. ticking.

  42.      Although the actual logistics of the situation are far from known, it
  43. was believed that the tactics relied on by the 'e-control liberation front'
  44. had failed.  The plan to capture the world's principle cities by
  45. remote-control 'mole people' robots was not implemented at all, causing
  46. relief amongst 'senators' world-wide.

  49. appeared on over 8,000,000 networked government and corporate computers 
  50. simultaneously. The file contained only one byte, ASCII-7 code 0.  The 'null' 
  51. character.

  54. the surface and destroyed every major city not controlled by the ECLF.
