  67.      PHINet is a mainframe located in New York, accessable through Tymnet. It
  68. is a database and document search-and-retrieval system designed for tax
  69. research. If the system seems a bit boring to the hacker, then I should point
  70. out the following information concerning costs: PHINet's connect-time prices are
  71. based upon the accumulated hours of use per month. See chart below.

  80.      As you can see, if what the system can offer helps you, Then it is well
  81. worth it to hack an account. PHINet is one of those services which you could
  82. really use from time to time, but would never dare pay the high fees
  83. for.

  85.      To enable you to access PHINet, you must gain an account. I will not go
  86. through the steps of gaining an account on a system simply because the
  87. steps are obvious and hopefully well-known to those reading this phile.
  88. To start you off, however, I will just say that it would be wise to
  89. locate a person/buisness probable to use PHINet, and work a little
  90. social engineering charm. Combined with trashing the person/buisness,
  91. you will surely have an account in no time. The user ID is eight
  92. characters long, and the password is four characters long.

  94. LOGGING ON TO PHINET

  97.      The first thing you need to do is get your nearest Tyment dialup.
  98. Connect to Tyment, and at the login prompt, type "ph". The
  99. message "PRENTICE-HALL ENTER USERID;PASSOWRD:call connected" will
  100. appear. When you get this, enter the userid number and password,
  101. separated by a semicolon. i.e.- p000-000;wxyz. If you login sucessfully,
  102. the News Menu will appear.

  104. GETTING AROUND

  107.      PHINet is a very user-friendly system, therefore I won't have to go
  108. into the details of many PHINet commands. The News Menu lists all of the
  109. menu-driven databases, and an example of it is shown below:

  118. Choose a database by selecting the respectful number. You will receive
  119. another menu, with complete instructions on the contents and usage. The
  120. following is information on all databases in the News Menu:

  122. DAY1: This database contains information concerning tax news from the
  123.       previous day.
  124.  
  125. WEEK: This database contains the previous *five* daily updates.
  126.  
  127. XPRT: This database contains briefings written by tax experts. Everyday
  128.       a new article is featured.

  130. HELP: This database contains a large amount of information on PHINet and
  131. its search-and-retrieval system. This is a good area to enter because of
  132. the command lists you can capture. They become *very* useful.

  134.      Databases in the News Menu are not searchable. The Main Menu lists
  135. all of the searchable databases. An example of the Main Menu is shown

  159. way around because of its simple database form, along with its extreme user
