  40. nuclear weapon (just kidding, actually an article on how to make a 
  41. pirate TV station !!@), and other fascinating information.
  42.         Well, Ross Perot's gone and done it.  Dropped out.  Couldn't
  43. take the pressure.  Don't all of you who were for him feel foolish?
  44.         Since we're so close to New York City, ATI was going to crash
  45. the Democratic Convention and give you an "insider's view" of the
  46. antics.  But, we decided it wasn't worth the bother unless we could get
  47. into that "smoke-filled room" and actually see whether or not 'ol Billy
  48. was inhaling.
  49.         We won't have the New World Order article for you this time 
  50. around, as I fell into so much information while researching it, that
  51. it will take longer to produce.  But, I can assure you that you'll
  52. be rocked and shocked when you read our forthcoming article.

  79. If you would like some more figures to help you feel INsecure, you might
  80. want to check out the book _The Coming Economic Earthquake_ by Larry
  81. Burkette.  I am a pretty fundamentalist type Christian, but we have in
  82. common with ATI the fact that I think we have a more or less self-destructive
  83. government on our hands, and I'd like to help change that!  Burkette's
  84. book may only be in Christian bookstores right now, because he is best
  85. known as a Christian Financial Planner (he gives EXCELLENT financial
  86. advice, differing from the norm only in the fact that he says we have
  87. a responsibility to God to be good stewards of what he has given us...).

  90. statistics out, and has some interesting stuff like how many years it
  91. will be before the interest payments on the national debt are higher each
  92. year than our entire annual budget is right now.  Not too many years away.

  107.   Well, the situation in Bosnia is now even worse than anyone
  108. expected. Serbian army captured their president (=Alija Izatbegovic)
  109. and released him after whole world accused such act, yesterday they
  110. destroyed many buildings in Sarajevo (capital city of Bosnia) - mostly
  111. churches, and cultural objects, they demolished the central Post (so,
  112. all phone lines are unusable - they expect to fix the 7000 phone lines
  113. in next 3 months, all other phone lines will be fixed in THREE years (if
  114. the war stops soon, of course), they are shooting at television building
  115. (they want the Bosnian television to stop their program and transmit
  116. Serbian television), Serbian army is shooting at European observers
  117. (and killed one last Sunday) and at UN Peace forces. And more interesting
  118. thing for readers of ATI: since March 1992 it is FORBIDDEN to import modems
  119. into Serbia - the government found out that people can express their feelings
  120. about the war via modem and want to stop this. The communication with
  121. Sarajevo goes via Packet Radio (perhaps it is interesting - when Serbian
  122. army attacked Dubrovnik, one of Packet Radio hackers used to send us
  123. mail, lists of needed medicines and such via Packet Radio BBS - he didn't
  124. have electricity and used to run the thing using home-made power generator
  125. while hiding in shelter). BTW, Dubrovnik republic was the first republic
  126. to recognize independent America.

  148. an article by Kirill Maslentsin in COMMERSANT Weekly,
  149. No. 13, March 23-30 1992, p.14 
  150. published by the Moscow Weekly Commersant.

  152. Starting from April 1st, the Commercial Service of the Moscow
  153. City Telephone Network (Proizvodstvennoe Ob'edinenie MGTS) will
  154. detect the unregistered modems. The experts doubt that this
  155. action, objectively necessary, can be carried out quickly,
  156. because the Commercial Service of the MGTS finds itself yet in a
  157. stage of organization.

  159. According to Alexander Shambazov, Deputy Director of the PO MGTS,
  160. approximately 100,000 modems are currently in use in Moscow.
  161. Shambazov was unable to say how many of them had been registered.
  162. Up-to-date, every Telephone Service node in Moscow used to
  163. register the modems separately (usually, at owner's request), and
  164. MGTS does not have the consolidated information.
  165.  
  166. The Commercial Service, created recently by the MGTS, will
  167. compile the general  database on modem owners. This department
  168. will detect the "illegal" modems whose owners do not pay for the
  169. use of these devices.
  170.  
  171. In Mr. Shambazov's opinion, companies which run phone-based
  172. communications networks, sell information contained in databases,
  173. and the companies who manufacture and sell modems, will help to
  174. detect the "illegal" modems. The MGTS will request these
  175. companies to submit their user lists. It is not excluded that
  176. MGTS will obtain the required information, because all the
  177. companies implied are interested to come to terms with the Telco.
  178. Shambazov said that MGTS has the modem detection equipment.
  179.  
  180. The experts consider that the "modem hunt", on its early stage,
  181. won't be very efficient, because the MGTS Commercial Service is
  182. still being organized, and its structure is weak. Nevertherless,
  183. one may expect that the frightened users of the "illegal devices"
  184.  
  185. According to the information obtained, the offenders won't be
  186. fined. They'll simply be urged to conclude a contract (if the
  187. modem is certified). The usage fee will be 1296 R/year for the
  188. self-financed companies, and 324 R/year for the organizations
  189. financed by the State budget. But if a company uses a modem for
  190. commercial purposes (for example, selling information), it will
  191. have to pay 50,000 rubles per year. Nothing was said with regard
  192. to modems owned by individuals.

  217. up that new ideas and re-assessments of our condition are 
  218. welcomed! Well, think again because it ain't necessarily so.

  220. What happens when a writer in a country like Australia sits down 
  221. and provides just that, material which is based on research, 
  222. experience amongst the peoples of this planet, and a probing 
  223. mind that is - let's assume this for the moment - objective and 
  224. commonsensical.

  227. to the public? No. Not if the political network in the above 
  228. mentioned country can help it. Because now one is up against the 
  229. invisible system of politicians, colluding academics, and even 
  230. some "independent" editors of the press, who all come together 
  231. in a glorious constellation that puts walls where we need open 
  232. fields and potholes where smooth roads should be.

  260. the past.  UPi is a group that puts out newsletters that deals with the H/P/C/A
  261. world.  In the past, our newsletters averaged only 1 article in length (which
  262. in size means a range of 25-50k) but now in the all new UPi newsletter we have
  263. decided to expand it so it will contain more articles (and all quality articles
  264. which means no more of those little shitty files that contains useless

  452.   Yes, for some time now it has been possible to
  453. construct a clandestine television station, which you
  454. can operate from your Telecommando Lair, or modify
  455. for Mobile Media Guerrilla campaigns.

  457.   We have named this device the Snow Box, due to its
  458. cool nature, and the snow seen on blank television
  459. channels waiting to be commandeered.

  461.  To put together a TV station you will need this stuff:

  463. A VCR or Camcorder with video or RF outputs

  465. A Ham Radio 6-meter Band Linear amplifier
  466.         (This boosts the RF signal from the VCR for     
  467.         broadcasting)
  468.         (The Linear Amp should have a bandwidth of 6    
  469.         MHz for best results)
  470.         A cable television RF distribution amplifier    
  471.         may also be used.

  474.        (Connects the Linear Amp to the Antenna)

  535. The antenna is set up much like a clothesline with the
  536. wires tethered straight out horizontally. The outer
  537. insulators are used to isolate the antenna from the
  538. tether lines, which should be rope or nylon cords
  539. for good results. The inner insulator isolates a gap
  540. between the two long wires of the antenna.

  542. The length of the wires used for the antenna is
  543. critical. Look up the length in feet for the channel
  544. you want to use in the table below & make each of the
  545. two long wires that length. As a rule of thumb, a wire
  546. half-wave antenna's length in feet is equal to 468
  547. divided by the frequency in MHz.

  572. published by the American Radio Relay League for
  573. detailed plans & theory for antennas, transmitters &
  574. linear amplifiers. The info in that book can be used
  575. for setting up an underground AM or FM radio station.

  578. Public Education: Make a videotape of each step in the
  579. process of constructing your transmitter. Show this
  580. tape in your broadcasts, "For informational purposes
  581. only", of course.

  583. Short-burst zipping: From a fixed or mobile base of
  584. operation show short snippets of graffiti-like computer
  585. graphics, quick subliminal messages, images &
  586. suggestions, or brief phreaker manifestos. Commercials
  587. are an opportune time to break into TV broadcasts.
  588.  
  589. Live call-in shows: Using a Cheese Box, or other device
  590. for receiving untraceable phone calls and a video
  591. camera do a live call-in show. Encourage people to call
  592. in using Red, Blue, and other phreaking boxes.

  594. Cable TV Piracy: With modifications it may be possible
  595. to feed the power RF signal directly into a cable TV
  596. system, overriding cablecasts or comandeering
  597. unused channels.

  599. Mobile Operation: Using storage batteries and a
  600. 110-volt inverter the transmitter may be modified for
  601. mobile use to avoid detection by the FCC during long
  602. broadcasts. Battery operated mobile linear amps and
  603. portable camcorders are also available.
